I'm having troubles with tactics. I set someone for 48 minutes (starting and each sub is the starter) and strictly follow depth chart, but they still get subbed out. I only won by 20 but they should get full minutes. Am I doing it wrong? I figured if I left the substitute spaces open the coach would fill them in automatically which is why I fill them with the person in the starting position.

they won't, barring injury. better to leave an open gap for the backup roles for the guy you want to give 48 to.

Usually I'll just take whoever I don't want to play completely out of the game lineup as in, I will take them and not even let them be on the bench with open sub spaces.

Yes, I do that too, but this wasn't about barring a player from getting minutes, this was about getting a player 48 minutes as PG to maximize my training. I am trying to train 3 players in single position. I have heard that training 3 players in single position is no worse than only 2 and going over 48 won't give any (noticeable) increase. So it makes sense to utilize all 3 training slots at exactly 48 min.

I would do the exact same thing but to make sure to schedule a scrim and literally play those pgs only once per week (1 pg per game full 48 mins and then switch every game

Although if you're doing single position training for 3 different players, if one gets subbed out, you can always dress them one of the other games to make up the difference, or go with a natural starter/backup role, and flip them for the next game. That works pretty well for getting multiple guys 48 minutes, too.

But yeah, I usually dress 6-7 players, just in the event of injury. However, I've gotten burned by that a lot recently too, so I've gone to dressing just 5.

I usually start the same 5 players for the first two (league) games, then make up minutes for their subs during the scrimmage. But now I'm trying to focus a lot on single position training. I try to get 48 minutes in a single position, then let them sub in another position to get close to 60 for their game shape.
I was only complaining because my tactics weren't followed when there was no foul trouble and it wasn't a (major) blowout. Even a blowout should still give them 48 because of my tactics, but alas, this is not reality.

I think I figured it out. There was some minor foul trouble with my players (4th foul late in the game) and I set tactics to sit them. I had it that way because I wanted my non trainees to balance 65-75 minutes per week. I was afraid they would go over and ruin gameshape. I rarely have players go below Strong gameshape and when it happens it's only one player at a time.

Yeah, I wish some tactics could be customized just a little more:

-Define "foul trouble" - If I want a guy to get 48 minutes, I want him playing with 5 fouls. I have had them subbed out.

-Define "garbage time" and when I want my team to start chucking 3s out of desperation. I still want my starting 5 in even if I'm up 50, 60 or 100 points. I also can stomach being down 9 points with 1:30 to go, and still want my team working the ball in if that's going to get us the best % look.

I also wish we could customize the coach's tactics a bit more. I agree with the no subs, no excuses rule. There are some other things too but I can't remember them right now.
This week I had 1 player get 47 minutes and the other two right at 48. This is also the first time that all my trainees got a skill pop in the skill I am training. I have had 5 skill pops between 3 players but at least one of them didn't get a boost in the skill being trained.

W00t! Iron shield achievement! I held a team to 0 points in the 4th quarter. I used full court press to take advantage of poor handling, passing, and stamina of a computerized team.
