That's my complain: the match against your rival has only effect on future attendances, but it's treated as a normal match and since your rival has worse position in the conference it has less attendance...

I also had the game against my "hated rival" this weekend. Although we were the top 2 teams in our conference I only had about 200 people more than the last game. My ticket prices are not very high.
I was disapointed because I thought that "rivalry" in BB would, in some small way, improve game attendance. Is it because I only have a PR guy of 5?

Nope,
I have PR lvl 10, and had approx 11,800 in my last home game.
Then played two away games, one of the them lost. Then met my rival
at homecourt, and spectators dropped to approx 10,700 (and yes, I also won
the cup-match inbetween)

I think that if you play against a top team is different to play against a weak team so probably you had the drop simply because your opponent was weaker but I'm not sure about it, I had the same "problem" last season.

It influences your next game negatively if you lose.
I think the rival game matters only after it has been played- It gives you a boost if you win and a drop if you lose. I think it is the same as the TV games or the cup games. They all affect your fan survey, which is some sort of modifier to the attendance calculator. I seem to remember a note about how the different factors are not weighted equally, though I can't be certain. If they are not weighted equally, I don't know which ones are more important than others, but I would like to...
Once I scored a basket that still makes me laugh.

I don't have an absolute answer to that, perhaps a GM or a more dedicated user can tell you, but looking at my survey last game seams to be one of the heaviest weighed factors, or at least heavier than rivalry and tv.
