had time to organize themselves.

You mean because of all the time the US's two biggest stars have had to play with the current manager's tactics?

The US over perform in quality/participant ratio in my opinion. e.g. in England, Italy etc, 90% of kids play football, but the coaching and facilities, on the whole, are rubbish compared to the US, where maybe more like 20% of kids play football (and then choose to go on to american football/baseball/basketball instead).

As such, i think the US overperforms overall. They did well at the Confed Cup which can be taken any way, however they did get to the quarters in 06 and the last 16 in 10, so something is going right.

Yeah, but 20% of the US is more than 90% of england by population.

Which is also why, ultimately, MLS will succeed. We don't need to match participation rates of european countries to still have greater viewership (and therefore, $$) than some of those leagues.

My family tree might go straight up, but it's a tall and strong tree.

2) not having a meaningful league facilitates tactical organization, so everything is planned in function of the WC except for those 1 or 2 players that are second stringers in some team in Europe

you're somewhere between 4 and 8 years out of date coco. i think there's 1 player on the NT other than Donovan (who starts for everton every winter when LA loans him there) from MLS.

i agree on the rest, though.

Ream just went to Bolton right? Could be a good player. Obv got Howard (freidel retired?) and Dempsey who is class as well.

here is what's going wrong:

1) the best athletes play Basketball or Football

Plus, alot of the athletes that do play soccer aren't 100% focused on just soccer. Growing up in soccer dominant culture, watching soccer growing up, and that being your main focus makes a difference too.

It seems like the culture here is improving. American kids have access to the worlds best on TV unlike prior generations, the youth systems are evolving, but it takes time.
