My interest in Basketball has increased infinitely... that is such a great read and makes me want to watch the re-run of the game... (and understand some of the play terms)

if you have as much fun bitching to your friends/readers as bill simmons does complaining about Zach Randolph doing exactly what your center did (note the time, 6 seconds left), than I think you'll enjoy this game a lot more.

yet, wrong decisions in the last minute are way too common.

This is what happened to me on saturday:
- Score: Smelly Cats 76 - Vavar Rivers 79
0:24 Full timeout called by Smelly Cats.
0:20 Tomala is forced to take a very long three pointer, guarded closely by Meiller. (no need to comment... and it was right after a timeout)
0:20 Shot missed.

and again, still on 76-79
0:18 Full timeout called by Smelly Cats.
0:08 Pass stolen by Scrofolo.
0:00 Pass stolen by Mezzalira. (Why no fouls? Were they happy with losing by 3 points?).
0:00 End of the game.

The fact that you _want_ to do something doesn't mean that you'll be able to do it all the time. Of course, this being a text play-by-play, that's not possible to see.

"I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."

I would just like to offer a possibilty from real life. With 8 seconds left, the coach told his team to take a quick shot so that, if missed, they could fight for an offensive rebound. On the inbounds play, the center was left unguarded so he slid out past the 3-point line, got the ball, and let it fly. This is a common tactic in basketball- shoot and crash the boards so if the shot is missed you have another chance rather than hearing the buzzer.

I agree that the GE does not always pick the "perfect" option. I have never been involved in a basketball game where the "perfect" option was chosen every time. Has your team ever called a timeout with a few seconds left in a 1-point game only to find they had no timeouts left? Not that crazy? Check NCAA final game when Chris Webber was a freshman at Michigan.

Once I scored a basket that still makes me laugh.

I've watched almost every one of my team's game this season (except scrimmages) and I only remember one game where my team played really stupidly in the last seconds. Your game (OP) was a statistical blip.

I have seen a lot of games in Europe for the last 15 years . There were such stupid coaching decisions ! It is normal - sometimes these things happen.
