You beat a team where the owner has logged in precisely once.

So of course that's not proof of problems with the game.

Can you help me understand this comment?

I have not been playing the game very long, and do not understand all of it . . .

Does this mean that there is a 'total effort' amount for the season, and if I use 5 for 3 games in the beginning I will effectively need to use an effort of 1 later in the season to make up for it?

You might want to read the enthusiasm section in the game manual but to sum it up enthusiasm is how "hard" you play during the game. 5 is always the normal and any variations will move towards 5 over time. The way it works is if you play "hard" i.e. Crunch time against an opponent, then your players will play a little harder in the current game but they will be a bit more tired for future games meaning they will not play as well. Vice versa if you do Take it easy.

ENTHUSIASM IS HUGE!!!! in this game.

I found out the hard way as well. I've taken some tough losses and really had some funky game outcomes. I was RATED WAAAY better and lost the other day. I really felt that somebody running the game is deliberately tilting the game against me (since I've been critical of this game on the forums I thought maybe a programmer took it personal and was out for me).

BUT I think its just enthusiasm.

It seems to have MORE of an impact on your performance than- Gameshape,Stamina&effort COMBINED.

Seriously. I've not been playing that long, but the games I've lost, especially the ones I lost to crap teams was when I had low enthusiasm.

I've gotten away with not so hot gameshape, attrocious stamina and even Take it easy at times. but Enthusiasm of 3 or lower and..... Yea.

PERHAPS enthusiasm is overated in this games, but its an interesting Xfactor, something that makes upsets possible, which makes the game more real I suppose.

Like if there were no Effort or enthusiasm ratings than everything would come down to base stats and game shape. That would probably make the game WAAAy easier to predict. and maybe they figure that would make it less exciting.

ONE THING- I think Stamina should play a bigger role. I don't think it should necessarily play into injuries or gameshape that much (which I think maybe it does, but not sure). Because if Stamina effected injuries and gameshape then it would be like a 'doublepenalty'. Players with low stamina should just perform poorly after Xminutes of play. How talented the player they face is may also be fair to include as a factor to increase or decrease the rate the player 'tires'.

RIght now it seems like you can field an all attrocious Stamina team of about 7 players versus a 12 man squad of proficient stamina and it will hardly impact the outcome of the game. Where as if the opponents enthusiasm is 5 and yours is 3 you are almost guaranteed to lose. I would like to see stamina impacting the game, and if it was stated in the game engine when we watched games that would be like WAY WAY COOL. for example "Joe smith gets beat again on the play, he looks tired' 'Joe smith's tank as empty, and his jumper is gone' etc. stuff like that would spice up the playbyplay and add another level of complexity, realism and interest to the game.

My two cents.

While I think this is mostly true, I did manage to win tonight with 4 enthusiasm and TIE against a human control team in my league who played regular and (I think) had 5 enthusiasm. I managed to make up for it with good tactics and slightly better players. This is definitely the exception to the rule, and controlling enthusiasm is very important but it's not enough on its own. No single element of the game is enough to decide who wins and loses and there is no way to ensure you win every game.

Your enthusiasm will move towards 5 over time irrespective of your team playing or not.

Yes it will, since your team won't be playing a game.

Also: Your enthusiasm won't be able to go back up to 12 again since you aren't getting a 3rd TIE game in the cup, and your enth will drop significantly. The All Star Break signifies the end of Part 1 and beginning of Part 2 in the season, so what you do (or not do) could hurt you for the 2nd half, and all teams will start on a more level playing field to begin the 2nd half.

I lost 82 - 84 to at team I probably would have destroyed if I had gone on normal. I took it easy in that game. I am way better than any team in my division. I've been trying to increase my enthusiasm in the past few games. So far, so good.

The game is not awful just because you lose a game against a weaker opponent.
This makes the game even more realistic. I mean every team has their off days. Look at the first game of the cup my team played, we lost badly to a bot team with really awful players. I was mad but than i saw that was one of those days where my team had an "off" day and that happens every time in basketball. Look at the bright side; you have a chance to win games against stronger opponents because they can underestimate you and have an off day.

It doesn't make the results completely random but it has a small random chance. I like it this way.
