Not the point. I'm not trying to justify the legitimacy of the decision making process, only the legitimacy of Qatar's bid in contrast to America's, which was extremely weak from a neutral perspective.

The location of host cities and lack of efficient transportation is a potential drawback, is all. I don't know if Russia has any plans to remedy their own problems in this regard. But that issue is unrelated to the 2022 vote.

I find it difficult to invest in the idea that the USA was hurt by being geographically big and Qatar not big when humongous Russia (and to be fair, it appears only their cities west of the Urals are involved) won their vote over not so big England.

It's not like different committees voted - it was the same voters and the same criteria.

Of course, but so many other factors are at play that it's impossible to compare. You can't equate Russia to the USA and Qatar to England based on size alone. Brazil has many of the same problems, yet is still hosting in 2014. Really, it's impossible to know what factors voters cared about the most.

Qatar was the right choice? Sorry but you'll never convince me of that. I suppose you thought England had the weakest bid for 2018?

IMHO, there are lots of weird things around and especially in the FIFA. Russia? Qatar? I could have understood why Russia won if there wasn't the candidacy of England, but come on... And the point is that there were more qualitative files - compared to Russia - on the table, like for example: U.S.A. & Portugal/Spain.

I'm not even going to discuss about Qatar... Qatar... World cup in Qatar... The players are going to play in a stadium with air-conditioning LOL... And once their game done, they'll struggle with a climate nearing 40°C/104°F. Weird conditions for what is suppose to be the biggest event.

European Russia is 4 million sq kilometers. The continental USA is 9.5 million sq kilometers.

The World Cup isn't just for the tiny country of Qatar, it's for the entire Middle East. In the same way the (highly successful!) South African cup was for Africa. I'm glad it will finally show Islamic nations in a positive light after all the fear-mongering we have here in the States.
