You are awesome. It is definitely a culture shock it's kinda surreal, but people you meet in georgia and in california surprise you sometimes.

We have a lot of great outside shooters. Unfortunately, we play all our games indoors.

I think that the athletics program is a really dumb metric to base such an important decision on.

You mentioned earlier that you are transferring back into the state for financial reasons. That's smart, but why are you not using finances to help make your decision? Finding the program that will academically prepare you for your career is a much wiser decision--no matter what field you are in. Take a look at the state of the economy right now-- it is awful. The unemployment rate for youth ages 16-24 is around 18%. The underemployment rate for youth is much higher.

Take a look at this article on the affects of under/un-employment in the early stages of your career. Then tell me that you shouldn't be doing everything possible to position yourself for the best job possible.

So, how do you judge a university by it's merit? Call some professors in the department you want to join. Investigate hands-on training programs that are integrated into the degree. Ask about class size-- maybe you will sit in a 400 person lecture hall, but will you get individualized attention when you need it?

I wish you the best in your search, but athletics is not the way to judge a university.

Oh i know but I also enjoy school spirit and social events and being as my transfer school is where i will live and spend the next two years of my life that is also a consideration. I have 4-7 schools in mind based solely on degree available/program merit/and graduate programs. What I lack is the high school friends and family in georgia that know people or have gone to these different universities and actually know what they are like. I've lived in california all my life, and when I choose a college there I spoke with everyone I knew that went to the school before I made a decision. I have my family and a small group of friends that don't know very much about the school system here in georgia. So, I was only hoping to get a few tidbits of info and any personal knowledge anyone had on the school system here. As for my personal wants. Frankly, I would be much more into going to school somewhere if I was involved in the sports programs (the bigger the better) and such as im a athletic training/kinesiology major.

That's a good question to ask the schools that you are considering! Ask each athletic training department how easy it is to get hands-on experience. Who knows, maybe some only reserve that opportunity for grad students or medical students?

The only school that I applied to in Georgia was Emory (which is located about 10 minutes outside of Atlanta). I visited the campus just once (for accepted student days) and was very impressed by the layout and architecture. The buildings are rather new and the school is backed by Coca-Cola, so shiny and high-tech is rampant around campus. It's a Division III school, which might be a turnoff for you, but I know that Emory athletics squads are pretty competitive within the Division and that the students are highly, highly supportive of the teams.

The vibe, from what I gathered, is pretty-laid back. Imagine lots of smiling students playing frisbee and hanging out in warm-weather clothing all throughout the extremely green campus. That's what I saw during my visit. The drawback is a lack of your provided academic interests. The closest majors to what you're looking into are the Health/Physical Education and Biology programs - which may just be a deal breaker for you.

As for me, I chose a school in the Midwest. I'm a Midwestern guy, through and through. Emory, however, was the last school crossed off the list. Good luck!

Thanks I'm applying to Georgia Southern University. I plan to enroll there in the spring, but unfortunately I have to wait another year to get into the athletic program. As they dont have the prerequisties I need to get in at my current college and they start accepting applications in april to i can only complete one of the two classes I need to take before the april deadline. so I have to wait for April 2013 to apply. Such a bummer.

Oh, how cute! A Georgia fan thinking nobody from Florida is around and that it's okay to talk smack.
