I think you mean backhanded compliment.
No, I was trying to balance saying what a great season it has been while expressing my displeasure and irritation with using a slow-paced offence against a team like the Czechs, who have a philosophy that means lots if secondaries and OD on court. Low Post resulted in too many end of shot clock attempts from players who couldn't make this shots. Shooting 0-18 from the three point line is why we lost.
Keep the tactics simple in that game, you win 9 out of 10 at home.
The Czechs, however, looked a decent unit and were certainly good enough to make the most of the opportunity we gave them by going Low Post instead of LI. The 2-3, I'm less bothered about, as it can be effective. I don't understand the LP call at all.

It looks like the 2-3 worked pretty well considering. Perhaps based on previous games we could have expected our offensive flow to have been higher than the Czechs which would have been more conducive to low-post, but the Blank Line-Up obviously had ideas of it's own. :D

Overall it's been a great season. Are you running for another 2 years eminence?

Not sure quite yet, I'm debating whether I want to stay on as U21 coach or try to make a move to the NT. We'll see. It'll depend partly on if any qualified canidates step up and say they'd be interested in the U21 job.

i disagree with ya Elmacca.

GS of Czechs was simply better. If your top 2 big men are GS 7 and GS 8, where as the opposing bigs got 4 guy's in GS 9, then you know it's going to be very difficult.

and that fact that englands U21 took 18 3pt shots attempts, means that they weren't able to penetrate inside to get the ball close to the basket. to me, that shows that the Czechs simply had a much better defenses than England, and that isn't somehting you can correct on the fly. considering the disadvantage in GS, i think LP was the better choice. you can argue that you take alot of shots near the end of the shotclock, but LI takes shotes earlier, meaning defensif rebounds for the czechs, which end up in more chances to score for them. Considering that they got the better GS, you don't want to increase their ammount of possesions, so i agree with the LP choice.

Eminence, job well done. you took the english U21 squad to their first ever participation of the european championship, and you had a decent run in the consolation tourney. Those are big improvements.

If the high potentials ( MVP or better) get trained well, then better results should follow soon for the english NT aswell (i'm saying better, not saying you can hope to achieve the same results as the U21 did with the NT.)

We had 21 offensive rebounds. I'll take the quick shots thanks.

"and that fact that englands U21 took 18 3pt shots attempts, means that they weren't able to penetrate inside to get the ball close to the basket."

Erm, that's because it was the slow paced LP taking too much of the clock looking for non-existent OD weakness. Throw the ball in with LI and you take lower percentage inside shots than LP, which driving can compensate for - but if you can't get inside with LP, as happened, youend up taking even lower percentage end of shot clock shots. It is not rocket science to know that the Czechs favour balanced players and LP is best avoided against them.

We too had very good secondaries(at least on our big men), and thus we decided it was a risk worth taking to get our inside guys mid range jump shots instead of just trying to post up on them with only 1 player with above wondrous IS.

I think that makes sense against another team, but not against the Czechs, who porbably have three guys like Adams on their roseter.

I must admit, I'm surprised we only had one guy >14 on the roster. Makes the previous results even more impressive.

Blank lineup was a nice idea, but like you said I don't know if it's worth ever trying again (or at least not during a game where the opponent is about even with us). I'll pretty much just restate what I said on the offsite: The 2-3 zone seemed like it worked very well, and our ratings and player ratings were great. It was definitely a winnable game, but I guess it just wasn't meant to happen. It probably would have been better to have more control over who was in the game and where, but I guess that's a lesson learned. Overall great season for England, and whoever disapproves of Eminence's job as U21 manager please tell me why :)

Great job throughout the competition. Always sad when it comes to an end, but you did a great job!

I don't know enough about tactics to have a valid opinion on the last game, but I guess I can say that some players got pretty unlucky with shots. Mainly Dante Ward and Homer Lucey.

Hindsight is a lovely thing, but I prefer to be happy about the total performance!
