If you truly want to debate about historical all time Australian BB manager rankings or even recent rankings, there are plenty of managers missing from that list.

Missing in all time:
Tier 1: Eagles, Shoei, Shepard
Gap
Gap
Gap
Tier 2: Name all those that made the ABBL/Cup Finals or have longevity in the ABBL.

Missing in recent times:
Slam, Chumunga, Noodles, Bogans

Depends on how you judge a manager in ranking. Is it performance? Is it community work? Combination of both?

Okay a bit of "supplier selection 101"

Step 1

Selection (eligibility) criteria

Agree on a selection criteria to allow a Manager to be considered
i.e. A total of 5 seasons in the ABBL and or the Manager to have won either the ABBL or Cup Trophy

Step 2 (Optional)
Shortlist

Reduce the candidates down to a manageable list (perhaps 10 or 12 at most)

Can be done by popular opinion or by making eligibilty criteria harder . i.e. must have stayed 5 seasons in the ABBL consecutively or won 2 trophies instead of 1

Step 3

Work out marking criterias and weightings

Work out the criteria as to how these Managers will be judged and give each criteria weighting.
i.e. Success = 200% Longivity = 150% Tactical nous (in games)= 100% Economic nous = 100% Activity in communities = 50% etc etc etc (possibly have 5 to 10 criteria each with its own weighting)
Nice if the criterias when multiplied by weightings add up to allow a maximum possible score of 100

Step 4

Selection of judges

Decide upon a group of judges (ideally of varying backgrounds and maybe numbering 3 or 5, but also who are able to fairly judge all candidates- many of whom may not be as active as what they once were)

Step 5

Scoring

Each judges scores each Manager that passed the selection criteria (in step 1) or short list (step 2 if applicable)
They do this by marking each Manager out of 10 for each of the individual criterias (from step 2)
i.e
(Judge) Yoda marked candidate Whitebeard the following;

Success 8 out of 10
Longivity 7 out of 10
Tactical nous 6 out of 10
Economic nous 7 out of 10
Activity in community 6 out of 10
etc

Step 6

Multiply by weightings
Yodas score of Whitebeard was
Success 8 x 2 = 16
Longivity 7 x 1.5 = 10.5
Tactical nous 6 x 1 = 6
Economic nous 7 x 1 = 7
Activity in community 6 x .5 = 3
etc

Step 7

Add up judges scores for each manager

i.e.

Candidate Whitebeard

Judge Yoda 73
Judge Dire 80
Judge Bobby Locke 78
Judge Hadders 67
Judge Avalon Jets 72

Whitebeard scores 370

V other candidates scores

Wow that is quite an impressive bit of data right there. I vote that you are the judge. I'd love to see what you came up with. To be honest I am very rusty on the guys before season 10 and probably don't rate them as highly as the guys playing now: I suspect it was a lot easier to make and stay in the ABBL in season five than it is now.

Thanks mate I appreciate the compliment and the plus 1.

Bit the same as yourself with regards to earlier seasons and when I think about it we both spent many seasons in league II.3 together.

Would be happy to help oversee the processes, but judging by the lack of responses to the post I dont think there is enough interest.

One of the bigger problems is that many of the obvious judges should also be candidates and might mark them selves too hard
