Downtime is completely unpredictable. Every time when a downtime is noticed, the scheduler is taken down and the transfers will be frozen and delayed. Then the transfers will be pushed back and deadlines extended.

However that's only when the downtime is actually noticed and unfortunately for us its close to impossible to have someone notice every downtime within a few minutes to lock all the transfers and other processes. So there will always be cases like the one you are talking about, these cases happen in the time gap untill we are notified and everything is frozen.

We try as much as possible to guarantee an optimal playing experience for our userbase. We want to best for our managers. However if you want to be completely sure that your players will not be sold below market value, then we say to list the player higher. If you list a player for the least amount you are satisfied with, then the downtime cannot harm you much. If you list a player below the amount you are satisfied with, it usually doesn't matter, BUT you take a risk for the few times the site actually breaks.

Downtime has many bad effects, not just affecting the transfers but much more which makes it very complicated to handle. We cannot guarantee anyone a 100% uptime as much as we would like to, it's just impossible.

Thank you. I think all people (at least myself) were looking for was an explanation/some elucidation on the thought process.

Old same argument... The "problem" is not created by the downtimes, it is created by sellers putting players on sale for a low fee under the delusional expectation and assumption that it will drive prices up.

Unnecessary risks taken for unproven smallish gains.
D for situational evaluation and E for decision making ;p

Sellers shouldn't take buyers for clueless cows anyway.
The surprise comes from life being fair from time to time ;)

You know it can happen, still you take the risk of listing a player too low. That's also a way of looking at it.

I think it is a lousy excuse to say its the users fault if he gets hurt by unforseeable server downtime. For some players you will get much more money if you start bidding at a lower price, so this is and will be a viable strategy.

A simple solution (we will never see, though), would be to let the seller set a reserve price, so if his price target wont get matched the player will remain with the team - even if there were bids on him.

The counterargument is that no player has sold at less than his listed price. If there's a price you feel you want and won't accept less than that, there's already a perfect mechanism for that. If you list at a lower price, you can get more or you can get less. Having downtime interrupt a potential bidwar sucks, but not enough so to implement a system that can punish someone who has a winning bid, expecting to get their player, and then finds out that the auction meant nothing because no reserve was met.

once I saw a player still on the market for an hour after it was supposed to end because people kept bidding. My point is...

Just imagine how irritated those poor people have been when they realized that after bidding for over an hour, only one guy gets the player.

You can set the minimum price you are willing to accept already. Pointless whining.
