I would guess that it depends on what it says under the "More Info" section of the player "overview" where it says how much of the transfer price you will earn if you sell him. For own draftees/original roster players it would say something like this:

"You will receive 97% of the sale price after fees.
- This player has been with your club for his entire career.
- You have sold 9 players in the past 14 weeks. "

Maybe the original poster could tell us if the "This player has been with your club for his entire career." sentence is still there after he made sure to win the bid. That would be very interesting.

(and, I'll admit that it's only my own guess that this sentence indicates that the player gets the extra home draftee merchandise bonus. That seems reasonable to me, but in the end it's really just a guess)

interestingly it says:
" You will receive 80% of the sale price after fees.
- This player has been on your team for 1 day.
- You have sold 0 players in the past 14 weeks."

i understand its part of the game,
but wouldn't it be more accurate if it still said that the player has been at your club his whole life?

Yes, it would be accurate, but then there would be no way of knowing that the fans are pissed at you for listing him on the TL. I mean, yes, you would see that your merch has fallen, but that could be due to something else like wins, losses, selling OTHER players, buying players, randomness, etc.

The reason why I decided to trade him was because I know I do not have the financial capabilities to get him to his potential. So I thought selling him would be more beneficial.

Just out of curiosity, why could you not train him to his full potential?

and also because a better trainer is required even though each level of trainer varies only a little, this small amount of training still matters

Yes,it would, but he could run better outsie oreiented offenses, have a man to shoot hte ball, and make WAY more merch training him to his full potential. Even in 4-5 seasons he could sell him,and buy moreplayers. I see training as 'a money making machine" with P. Allstar+ players. Theres no reason for him to sell him now,he could train for U21,which will result in him only having a 10-30,or even 40k salary.
