Saady falls short again as Caccamo wins MVP

For the second straight season, shooting guard Gianmaria Caccamo of Berds Cage is hailed league Most Valuable Player as he edged out rival Insa Saady of the Bacoor Blades.

Caccamo once again led the league in scoring after posting a 30.1 points per game average throughout 22 elimination round games. He also posted 7.0 assists per game which is good for 3rd best in the league as well as 5.5 rebounds per game, en route to garnering 192 points from the voting panel.

Saady, who reportedly is in his last stint with the team, averaged 20 points per game and 4.8 rebound per game, which are both lows since he came to Bacoor, though his 5 assists average per game is a few notches higher than his average last season and is tied for 8th best in the league. He, on the other hand, only garnered 125 points from the voting panel.

The MVP race was dominated by players from both the Blades and Berds Cage, with 3 coming from the Cage and 4 coming from the Blades. The players from Berds Cage though, would wind up in the top 5, with Yiannis Pekos and Jude Mondoñedo taking the #3 and #4 spots respectively. Mark Louis Hugos would round up the Top 5, while Iliya Dimov and Kelly Paul would fall at #7 and #9 spots respectively.

"It comes as no surprise that he was able to win it again this season." admitted Saady. "His numbers are way up there. He really did everything for his team." he further added.

The news came on the heels of the Blades' preparation for their Game 2 encounter versus The Blackout as they look to even the series at one game apiece and force a do-or-die tie breaker.

It would be the ideal setting for the Blades to win the league title on their home floor. And although they still have a shot at it, they would now have to do it with an all-time high sense of urgency as they travel to the War Zone down 0-1 to The Blackout, who successfully took advantage of the first finals feeling out of the Blades, 117-105 at The Bacoor Forum.

“It’s no fun losing like that. But the thing is, we have no choice but to regroup as quickly as possible.” says team manager TheDogMan.

In a previous statement hours after losing at home in Game 1 of the Best-of-Three series, he insisted that there will be no rotational changes as they attempt to even the series at one game apiece on the road.

“It was a tough outing the last time for Insa and Eladio. I don’t expect them to have the same struggles that they had the last game.” As he addressed the shooting struggles of sixth man Eladio Martin and starting forward Insa Saady.

“Then again, I don’t expect the other side to roll down and die a. They’re motivated to win it all. Like I said, they were here before so they will stop at nothing to get what they want. And we want that title just as much as they do.”

After posting their best season yet as a franchise, the Bacoor Blades failed to cash in the opportunity to win it all, losing in Game 2 of the Best-of-Three series for all the marbles, 107-96, as The Blackout emerge as the top team in the league and the team to be promoted to Division III.

It looked like a close game but nevertheless, the same script from games past has haunted the Blades one last time, another slow first quarter did them in as they failed to make the deficit the entire game that began as a 34-25 lead after the first 12 minutes.

As always, they would try to cut it at the half. And though they were successful in making it a 54-52 game at the interval, things would go from bad to worse for Bacoor as they would only score 19 points in the third canto while allowing the home side to score 32 on them.

In the fourth, any attempt at a comeback were to be doused off easily. Unlike Game 1, comeback attempts by the Blades were few and far between as they looked gassed during the final period.

"We're not going to make excuses, they were the better team. We looked good on paper, but it never showed and that always makes the difference." says team manager TheDogMan during the season's exit interview.

"I am proud of what this team has accomplished this season. We went this far not by luck alone. We were able to learn along the way. In the end though, it obviously was not enough."

The rest of the Blades players echoed the same sentiments. veteran forward Insa Saady was the first to point out positive after the game.

"It was a season to remember as a franchise. We won a lot of games this year. We can hang on to those experiences." said the exiting French international, who is reportedly leaving the Blades camp.

"It's no fun leaving them. But I want to see them grow on their own."

The Blades ended the elimination round with a 22-0 win-loss record. It looked as though they were shoo-ins to the promotion, they ultimately failed to make the cut.

End of an Era: Saady officially put in transfers

After 3 seasons with the team, including 2 playoff runs, with the most recent ending in a disappointing loss in the Championship round after going undefeated in the elimination round, French forward Insa Saady, arguably the team's most important player, will no longer be with the team the next season, as management has officially put the 6'7" do-it-all on transfers.

"In accordance with our previous statements, and with a heavy heart, we are obliged to put Mr. Saady in the Transfer Market." according to the official statement released just moments after they lost in Game 2 of the Finals to The Blackout.

"To reiterate, it was a mutual agreement between the two parties, as they have both agreed to part ways which they both saw as a measure that would help the team." the statement continued. "We wish Mr. Saady good luck in his journey to seek a new team that shall welcome him as their own the same way that he was welcomed as a member of the Bacoor Blades. Thank You and again, Good Luck."

The 33 year old was acquired as a free agent on October 20, 2011. And since his arrival, he has been the franchise's most important cog, powering his team to two straight 13-9 win-loss elimination round records in two seasons, the latter leading to a League Semifinal berth. This was to be followed by the team being able to win all of its elimination round games for Season 20, only to lose in the finals. He also finished as the runner-up for the League's Most Valuable Player plum, edged out by Berds Cage's Gianmaria Caccamo for his second straight MVP trophy.
