In a break with tradition, the bad beat of the night was not handed out by Dropito but by myself! I was wrong twice in game day prep (I had Chicago Bulbs II doing motion tactics but they used look inside for this game) and William Buchan was injured in the 1st minute of the 1st quarter for the whole game as well but it turned out not to matter as despite Chicago having 16 more team rating and 0.8 higher average player rating, we won 84-77. We won the rebound battle 53-42, blocking 11-2, and team efficiency 99-81, they won assists 22-14 and steals 4-2. A bit like when Glasgow Blue Jays lost to Dropito though, the difference seemed to be giving away 14 extra free-throws which easily accounts for a 7 point swing.

The other game that could feasibly have gone the other way was Skytturnar beating Glasgow Raptors 131-126. Both teams seem to have similar skill levels and the game ratings (144 Skytturnar - 142 Glasgow), average player ratings (13.9 Skytturnar - 14.4 Glasgow) and team efficiency (151 Skytturnar - 162 Glasgow) seem to back that up. Glasgow easily won the rebound battle (72-38) but gave up 18 turnovers to a full-court press (Skytturnar gave up 6) and that alone seems to have cost them the game.

Great as always.

I can be completely wrong. But I have the feeling that the game is changing in a better way, in my opinion. I have the feeling that more things than the basic count now count more. Not only rebounds, (it has some seasons that I won game after game with it), FG etc.
I have the feeling that now counts all things more than before, more balance. Again, this can be bullshit, and I need to keep in mind that I started to change the team this season, and it will take 2-3 seasons, I guess.

From the start, my strength has always been that I have a team, not stars. So normally I am low in all statistics and it still is on many factors and no problem, but I am rising in the statistics of the game itself.

The Clasgow Raptors crushed me in rebounding tonight (and that was not the plan), but to balance it, I was better in TO + steals. But in great rapport, there was one thing too. FG was equal and in Free throws I had small benefits. But I think the key was the 3 FG. 20-6 means 60 points against 18, and that is huge.

But I have been planning part 2, so I have looked more closely at the group on the right side of the table. And I like, and that does my more convince that changes are, the performance of Sain Booker. If you look at the players, they could be in a problem, but they have 8-0. And if I am guessing right, it is because their players are very similar and probably a better team than an individual.

Hey! Congrats on the win and great job with all the data. From my side, I had to deal with an injury to a key role player in the first quarter, which definitely had an impact—despite the match preparation being spot-on ;)

Rebounding is still a very useful skill in my opinion and I suspect is one of the more expensive to improve in salary skills for a reason, but I am told in days of old it was very VERY powerful. Your 1st paragraph suggest I was told the truth, so I am not surprised it seems to still work if you can eat the salary cost of it.

I do agree the game engine seems to reward team depth. I pointed out when we played that Santa Booker and myself could be described as the 2 spidermen meme, and I suspect our teams as constructed are broadly similar except he doesn't have the Scottish players only restriction I have have placed on myself (reminder of how similar we seem to be are these statlines : - https://www.buzzerbeater.com/match/136183166/boxscore.aspx.

Having a similar team construction to me but with the whole world to choose from and so slightly better versions of similar style players (where I have Buchan, he has Draper & where I have MacNuir, he has Pestryakov) means that while I am 8th in wagebill, 4th in FG%, 5th in 3P%, 4th in efficiency/game, 2nd in rebounds, and 2nd in blocks for the division which would sound like solid management, Santa Booker is 10th in wagebill, 1st in FG%, 1st in 3P%, 1st in efficiency/game, 3rd in rebounds, and 1st in blocks!

I am at least ahead of him on the arenabuilding I guess...

Thanks, although I still feel you would have likely won if there were an option in Buzzerbeater to choose to NOT foul late in the game when narrowly down and you used it.

Again and again your players queued up to foul my better free-throw shooters including MacNuir twice who hasn't missed a league free throw since season 67 and was a 93% FT shooter then!

Asgeirsson was injured by the back-up centre who likely wouldn't have been on court if you hadn't injured starting centre Buchan 1st. You then also injured starting PF MacMurchie for at least the next game so it was clearly getting a bit MMA in the rebounding battle for a while there :) !

Hinriksson replacing Asgeirsson didn't seem to be the issue anyway, he did OK. Svarvarsson going -18 in 13 mins with 0 pts, 0 rebs, 1 assist, 0 steals, and 0 blocks seems to have been the other thing that swung it my way other than the freethrows!

Yes, agree, is it important to be good in rebound (like in the meat world). But it is not crusial any more. If you set up good tatcic and have player for it, you can do well in they have other benefit which fit the style.

This was one of the matches I was looking at and one of the matches that added my belief in the TEAM effect.

Other things are interesting. This is the first season I have the gym for training free throw. I don´t want to check it before after the season because so many effect come in. But I have the feeling it count even more than I was told.
I use 3 factors to add with the arena. Needed to reduce one as I was a littile to fast but that was from 3 to 2 so I can live with that.
But the free throw gym seems interesting.
I don´t need to add seats for the area for a long time, and have not done in a long time. But the price factor is always very tricky.

Pic Pedrosa would likely have absolutely taken a deal for Chicago Bulbs II to be kept to under 100 points before the game, not realising they in turn would only score a historically low 16! The only starter with a positive efficiency score was the centre Bernat Tintinyà thanks to 16 rebounds but he scored 0 points and Chicago's centres combined to 20 points from 9-12 shooting, 26 rebounds and 6 blocks. As a team, Pic Pedrosa had 5.6% shooting & 0% from the 3 point line. Top scorers for Pic Pedrosa? Bousi and Grau with 4 points each. There were likely record lows for the division in multiple categories unless anyone knows better!

Elsewhere, Santa Booker's red-hot start came to a crashing halt as a seemingly full 1st choice Glasgow Blue Jays team out to teach the new boys a lesson beat them 124-80. Santa Booker were caught out with a double-miss in preperation, outclassed 148-121 in game rating, 171-79 in efficiency, and were 2.9 per player down in average player rating.

As for us, for the 2nd league game running, a player was injured in the 1st 2 minutes, Dougal MacSymon getting his turn with the icepack after Buchan and MacMurchie had there own turns against Chicago Bulbs II. His replacement Andrew Kerr made Comandaranga pay for it though with 24pts, 11 assists, 6 steals, 4 rebounds, and 4 blocks coming dangerously close to a rare 5x5 night!

Per the below table Chicago Bulbs II and Glasgow Raptors were similar in game rating and average player rating, but either the Raptors had a bad shooting night for the ages or Chicago Bulbs II put on a 2nd consecutive defensive masterclass as Chicago won out 83-50 thanks to the Raptors' 18.9% shooting night and 7.1% shooting from 3pt range.

Celestia BC set up with the rare 1-3-1 zone defence knowing Bibby Brotherhood would play Run & Gun tactics and ended up with a rare wondrous rating for perimeter defence making Bibby's 81 points a relatively strong effort against it.

Santa Booker had their welcome continue as they were double-correct at GDP and played with more effort so reached an equal 125-125 game rating with Dropito along with 1.2 extra average player rating, but were beaten by 16 pts, seeming to have no answer for Dropito's PF Štrbac and his MVP of the night performance 22/19/10 triple double.

Glasgow Blue Jays also seemed keen to extend their "big-leagues" welcome to a recently strengthening Locomotive Edinburgh with a team strong enough to put up the highest game rating of the night for the division, and while after dominating the 2nd and 3rd quarters a Blue Jays win was never really in doubt they saw enough of a challenge put up that the final score was a competative 100-91.
