but the point is, it seems like the algorithm is heavily dependent on the comparison between the player and his sub.

what I advocate is an option to have less strong dependence, and more of a reflection of simply how tired the starter is. Something like :

I could be wrong, but isn't that how SFDC functions? If my goal is to assure a crappy backup takes at least some chunk of minutes behind a really good starter, SFDC usually takes care of this. In fact I play almost every game in SFDC mode except for games that don't affect minutes (PL, B3).

The only problem with this is if the starter has really good stamina (which several of my starters do), they still might end up playing over 40 minutes.

I fully am aware of how to get players 48 minutes in a game, assuming no injuries or fouling out.

And no where did I mention specific minute manipulation during competitive matches. Meaning, games where you want to win. Being in Cleveland, I understand how minute handling goes out the window when trying to win (a la Lebron James minute manipulation)

I'm just saying, in a game that is pointless except for training purposes, there is 0 reason not to be able to say 'Hey coach, we want to see this guy for 30 minutes'. That is exactly what happens in summer league / preseason games. That's all I was saying. I realize this will not be implemented, which I find kinda lame, but whatever.. it's not my game. And I can deal with the current system as I have been for the previous 7 seasons. I'm just sayin', ya get my dirft?

BTW, I don't equate challenge to randomness of minutes or the draft. I think the 'challenge' of this game is to balance training, winning, and economic stability. Not handling minutes. /tangent

:)

Fouls and injuries I agree with. Garbage time and freedom of coach can be eliminated by proper lineup manipulation, in my experience.

Look at my last game.At the end of the third quarter i went in garbage time and without injuries or foul troubles(3 fouls made in 36 minutes),my coach substituted him with players setted as reserves in other roles

I do not think we should have an easy way to "set" the minutes a player is going to spend on court. Not for competitive games, not for scrimmages.

Like some other aspects of training, I tend to think that we need to lose some of "real basket simulation" in order to win some of "fun game of basket simulation".

"in a game that is pointless except for training purposes"

It is part of the challenge of training to get your players appropriate minutes. I don't know how many different ways it can be said. If you can't or won't see that managing minutes is exactly the point of scrimmages I don't know what to tell you. If it wasn't a bit of a challenge you wouldn't have posted.

I have no idea what a dirft is.

You've said it one way, try another I guess.

I understand that for some it's a challenge. If you consider this a 'challenge', I'm sorry.. that's your problem. For me, it is not a challenge. I just consider it a minor nuisance that could be easily fixed. This is a moot point anyways, it won't be changed and I really don't care too much. I just thought I'd throw an idea out there. Different minds are bound to disagree, so we do. No probs.

Anyways, no one plays their starters in scrims during the season anyways, so minute management is cake. Not a 'challenge'.

Getting your players optimal minutes is part of the challenge of the game.
Training minutes present a challenge to managers, who need to juggle their lineups in three games a week.
Weekly minutes are challenging to balance.
Gameshape hinges on players receiving game minutes. Too many or too many and the game shape goes down. This is one of the challenging aspects of management.

For me, it is not "cake" to get all of my players between 55-65 minutes per week so that at important times during the season my gameshapes are all proficient. In fact, I find it quite difficult to do that and win.

I do not find it a problem that I find challenges in this game. I find it the opposite of a problem.

You dressed far too many players for the game. Simple as that.

Best way IMO to get 48mins is to dress 8 players. 3 subs on the 2 non-training positions and SFDC. The ONLY time that fails is via an inj/foul out. Even in this event it is unlikely a lucky fan will come in (maybe temporarily) one of the other 3 subs will be allocated to the position.

No way you can dress 12 guys and expect a guy to play 48mins even without setting any back up or reserve for them.

I used to think people who complained about the substitution pattern were just mistaken. Maybe they put too many players in, pick the wrong coaching strategy, etc. Well today's game, I just saw my PG (whom I'm training) get replaced by my backup Center. W. T. F. ?. And at that point in the game there was 1 - 1.5 minutes left and I was up by <10, >5. No foul trouble, no injuries, no blowout. PG replaced by a backup C.

*shrugs*

EDIT: I'm going to take this as a sign that the BB-Gods are telling me to go back to 5 person training instead of 3.
