Yeah thats the plan that I envision. Getting him around 7-8 IS makes him an impossible to handle SF and avoids the salary explosion.

Thanks for the input guys. You guys have been really helpful

Dont misunderstand me on IS. I don't think it's the most important stat on a guard. I just think it's under-appreciated by a lot of lower division teams, who go out and decide that they can pick up C's and Pf's that are good at it so they shouldn't get too enamored with it on their guards. Instead, i play the 'i dont trust the sim engine' card, and i want to make sure that if it does something whacky with my guys on the floor, that each guy has some degree of competence in both defending and shooting from that position on the floor.

Salary considerations are an important 6th or 7th step in the learning curve, i just don't figure it's worth it to tell someone in their 3rd day now too much about it. Don't want an overload to happen.

Yes, that is fine, but if you can't reach that high, 8 would be a good point to go for.

I'm not sure how useful a 11+ IS is for a guard at a higher level where people actually care about their ID on more than just bigs, but for D.IV and probably D.III, he'll be in far better shape than a heavy percentage of the teams he faces. If he's going to train him up, there's no reason not to go ahead and fix that.
