haven't seen too many games with the swing in momentum like the Lake Merritt - Redbull game. Lake Merritt up by 19 at halftime, only to see Redbull come back to tie it and force an overtime.

i swear Coco is cursed -- ruined his week's minutes but, more than that, he has the absolute grumpiest fans in the world. i can understand fans used to NBBA play being upset with having to play against us, but they have never forgiven him, not like the way Steve's fans have more or less forgiven him.

Just a few observations on the new teams in my conference, while waiting for the Cup game . . .

Chanute: what an interesting squad. with a name like Sharpshooters, i get the idea that he favors players that can score, maybe from a distance. regardless, right now gwoodyard has a 10 man squad with one PF, no centers, and 2 SF. i have a lot of respect for SF, and Chanute looks like they have an exceptional one with Martinez. This is fundamentally the squad that got him here (he sold a older C), so we may have us a non-LI approach to offense. The squad is young but thin, and i will be pretty surprised if Chanute does not get a big man sometime soon. that said, with that youth, this team has a very solid core.

Muppet Honey: another interesting bunch. a deeper squad, but with relatively low salaries. however, i'm not sure there are many teams in DII.3 who have quite as many players with double-digit game ratings as the Badgers. by the end of last season she had a squad full of players in the 15 game rating range -- really extraordinary. and remember this is with low salaries. i think Muppet Honey will eventually discover what i did, that at this level, you need some brutes to handle, or at least neutralize, the Trahairs and Goss' monsters so many teams have (see Martinez, above, for a non-C brute). nevertheless, i could see 15 - 16 wins in her first season in DII.

right now, the Great 8 looks quite competitive. heaven help us if we don't get bot teams in the Cup.

I do appreciate the love, and yes a big man is definitely in my future once I get a good handle on cash flows and get some money into my arena. I wish everyone the best of luck this season, and if anyone has suggestions that I can use it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Gwood

I have a suggestion.....you should make the "w" silent....That would be good.

Absolutely you could do that....but it still wouldn't be good though.

it is still early, but from my vantage point this season may turn out to be quite a remarkable season.

the impact of BB's new rules about the salary tax and the older one about transfers' GS i think may combine to reduce the chances of a given team "buying" their way to a championship. it still can be done, but the deadline for such moves i think is now somewhere in the 2- or 3-week window before the playoffs, maybe a bit more, and that is if a team can handle the hefty 50% tax on untrained new talent above the team's revenue (cap).

nevertheless, several teams are in a position to make significant moves: Lake Merritt, Chanute (i can't believe the player he got for $119,000), Senecaville, Tucumcari, Window Lickers, all could swing, i figure, another player in the $50,000 - $60,000 range; Penlicox and Ron Swanson have team salary totals of around $350,000, and i figure both have money, either from sales or promotion; and Muppet Honey, Libertines, and Cyborgs all have team salaries under $300,000, which is well below the norm for this level.

more generally, it looks as though we have no tankers -- no team(s) who this year will have a PD of -1200. this means a very competitive league: i feel i could easily have two losses, Lake Merritt and The Hawks have already lost, Redbull is much better than its record indicates, Senecaville is busy wheelin' and dealin' and may yet deal itself a full house, and the low-salaried Libertines and Badgers have won 5 of 6 games between them. And did i mention that Chanute has filled a major hole for relative peanuts?

with so many involved and i think having a chance of winning it all, this could be a really fun season. best of luck to all.
