That is an awesome idea. Which country will those 100 managers be invading? I' might join them =P

There are some that wanted an utopia country. By doing this they are essentially making their own utopia country.

i know that one group is targetting New Zealand. and a second (larger group) is still trying to figure out where they'd want to go, but the names as Mexico, Norway, Austria and Sweden are in the mix, but to my knowledge, no nation has been agreed upon yet.

i might join that second group, or if not i'll go for a second team in Australia. i might be moving to Queensland or NSW soon for 9 months and thus having a team in the country i'm in for an extended period might not be such a bad thing. (and it's not as if the Belgian community would miss me, considering that if we put aside the BBBL fora and would remove Joe, Dart and myself from the equation, then it's completely dead).

either way, in anticipation of my potential move, i though i might as well start to be a little active on the fora. the move is still pending a couple of things, but those are out of my hands.

the obvious down side to this is those that happen to land in utopia div I have a HUGE advantage that land in div 3 or 4. Would be better if they started everyone in div 4, top 256 teams from first season then go to div 3, etc. That would make it fair on everyone.

see below, but i disagree with your statement about the luck.

1) the utopia team can buy players from the original nation?
2) everyone starts in IV. however, after the first season, how many promote to III? if only the champs promote, then it's 64 teams, which only fills 3 III divisions... if it's a clean up, then those thougher conferences will be at a disadvantage, etc etc...
3) when does Utopia start?
4) by my knowledge, a BB season doesn't match a full year. So i'm assuming they mean 4 seasons?

and last but not least: one big Con remains:
the managers who would take a second team, would go to other communities. since they are usually the active ones on the forum, BB was hoping to see the smaller nations getting more active (assumption of mine here). However, since everyone ends up moving to Utopia, we are facing the risk of seeing managers become less active in their own communities because Utopia will without a doubt become a 'hyper' active community. So now ur draining the current (active) communities to one central place. I'm not sure if that is such a good thing for Buzzerbeater in it's whole. BB is fun because we all share a passion for basketball, but it remains fun because of the interactions u can make within the community (atleast that is my view on it). i love it because i can rival others, exchange idea's, discuss topics etc. However, if u drain those communities, will BB remain such a fun place? I liked the idea of a second team, but somehow i'm feeling less attracted to the Utopia idea...

As for the 1st season luck etc:
there are multiple options for that first season. However, i'd like to point out that those promoting will have a slight advantage, but will have had to spend cash to get up their on players. Other owners could invest in their own arena, decide to end last, pick up a good draftee, buy a trainer and have a much better financial situation to go from. my prediction is that everyone will go after players on the TL, instead of first taking care of their own financial situation. Everyone is so focussed on promoting, that many will forget that what makes a team truely succesfull, is long term planning and a good economical foundation to support it.

So yes, certain managers will promote faster, get a promotion bonus etc. However, they won't have the arena or the economical foundation required to keep up with it. So teams promoting the seasons afterwards will have a better economy and are likely to overtake the hastly promoted teams. being in a higher division doesn't do u any good if u don't have the arena to generate enough revenue from it. A top division in any country with decent amount of active people is very unstable at first. It only becomes stable after 5 to 6 seasons, when the economies have given them a good advantage. Hence, focus on the economical part first, before charging for the top division. atleast, that is if u intend on playing a while...

There are 64 division IVs. There are 16 division IIIs with 16 teams each so a total of 256 teams will get promoted to fill them therefore there will be tons of bot promotions so anyone who ends up with a good record should get promoted. We don't even know how many teams will be willing to pay the $10 for a second team. If it is 500 then you have a roughly 50% chance of earning promotion. The problem will be that the way to do it will be a bit ugly. I forsee a lot of 35 year old players and game shape training. Not sure I am willing to play that way.

Tis an interesting question - would getting a bunch of 32/33 yos and going GS training and getting an inside path to the top division put you in better shape than a team that trains up some young guys and builds up their arena, but as a result takes a few seasons to get out of div 4?

I'm going to be trying out a new strategy for me, which probably won't bring instant success (or perhaps any success at all), but I'll be interested to see what strategies others do.

i liked the realistic part of being in a community. i don't really like a fictive community. that is what is bugging me the most...

then again, spot on with the promotion calculation. altho it's 10$ for a year, meaning that u'll get 4 seasons time on that second team.

Thats a good point you made there. For $10 usd, you are getting about 4 seasons worth. That point alone should be emphasized an d promoted by BB. And I believe for that reason alone you'll get more them 1000 people sighing up for a second team.
