Thanks for the support chaps,

Apologies to you all for the lack of a write up last week, I took a lastminute trip to Rome with the kids and so focused the time I did have on the game itself.

England 116 - 102 Iceland

After a high score first Q leaving us 5 points down, I was left scratching my head as to what was going on, on paper we should have been ahead and Iceland were surprising us with their offensive game. I was having flashbacks to the Football NT of a few years ago when the Viking chant resounded over a shock Icelandic victory. Q2 started and again was score heavy, surprisingly score heavy. I was amazed by how poor we were defensively, but knowing how erratic Q3 is, I was confident as we went into HT trailing by 2 that this was just one of those silly games (like most of the ones we have had this season). Q3 did not fail to disappoint! At least it is reliable in providing a swing to the game. This time our team just dominated, we rolled over Iceland with a 19 point swing from which they were never coming back in Q4. This rounded off our second victory of the campaign and frankly a well deserved one.

For the game MVP this one was a hard one, every player pulled their weight well and no particular player outshone the rest. Thats the way I like it! I'm going to give the award to Osman who scored efficiently and dominated on the boards . He just pipped to the post; Carter (who played an all round solid game), Galloway (who locked down their normally strong scoring SF), Alburger (who provided the most to the points swing while on the court) and Ellis (who scored the most).

MVP Tally
Osman - 2
Galloway - 1
Carter - 1
Grierson - 1

Onto our game today, we could be hit with anything from odd tactics to a crunch, for the next couple of games we play 2 teams with nothing to lose.

England 112 - Maldova 70

Rollover Maldova! This was a game that we expected to win, and we did comfortably. Maldova perhaps have the weakest side of our draw and our lads dispatched them with relative ease save for the first 10 minutes of settling in. With 3 minutes to go in Q1 we were 16-22 and just like the Icelandic game, we looked decidedly nervous. But a late run in the quarter saw us close out on top and frankly from there it was all down hill. Our usual surprise in Q3 didnt come and we blew them out with a 21 points margin from which there was absolutely no coming back. The team drew home with distinction and all in all the whole group looked like a solid unit. We were short on bigs again but Galloway did a stirling job holding the PF position. This brings us to 3-3 in the campaign with 1 to play, sadly not enough to qualify but given that we missed out on beating the two top teams by 2 points each, we could easily be in pole position right now if the court gods were in our favour.

Next week is Finland, a land I deeply respect and their team is no slouch or stranger to a good game. Please keep the team in good shape for one more week so we can end this a respectable 4-3 and hopefully take 3rd place. In the mean time a big thank you again to our great managers who work hard to get players in shape, I know how challenging that is.

MVP this week goes to Ellis for his solid scoring 50% on 3's, second week in a row of top scoring and a solid set of assists.

MVP Tally

Osman - 2
Galloway - 1
Carter - 1
Grierson - 1
Ellis - 1

Depending on the results next week, I'll give the MVP title based on the campaign results. At the moment that means Osman is in pole position but will it be shared?

Onward!

England 72 - 93 Finland

Gutted. Honestly the game was uphill all night and painful to watch. I had expected us to win this before the update on Friday, but when I saw that we had only one big in half decent shape and all our other bigs either 7 or less game shape I just knew we were screwed. The team did their best, but we got nuked by our lack of inside offensive punch. The guards struggled with no inside to pass to, resulting in them taking more risky shots and so we got rolled.

Sadly that ends what could have been a fun finale. Well done to all the managers and thanks for the in general support folks. These sorts of losses are the way it goes in NT, we can only do one game at a time and have to make the most of it.

In the scrims I’ll look to use some younger players, our team needs some new blood, especially inside!

Bad luck in some games for you guys that could have placed you higher in the table if the results of those close games were different. One of those games was against us in the first round, a very close that could have been won by both sides.

Great respect for Vecx

Good luck for you in the future.
Greetings,
Jonas

(sorry for any language mistake, hope my ideas are clear)

Sadly from your side, we played our best game of tournament against you guys. Now we are both out of the competition, but let's have a new shot next season All the best for England.

its cool mate, we hurt bad when he isnt in shape but its life. I remember a season where i couldnt shake the 7 GS starting bug on innes for about 6 straight weeks. Clearly we need to sacrifice more rookies to the BB gods

Hey all.

I genuinely had the best of intentions to write match reports this season, and even after each game I thought I might do it this week, but I guess I'm just a bit shit? (and BB international management is really most suited to Uni students with loads of free time on their hands I reckon...not that I imagine many people that age are playing it these days). Just life and feeling busy innit...soz like.

On Monday we have the first knockout round. There is 0 chance we get through unfortunately. 0.5% if I'm generous? :) We ended up with a 6-2 record and the 22nd seed and are playing away at 7-1 Russia. Russia should be an 8-0 team and 6th/7th seed really, for some reason Lithuania crunched Russia (on a TIE). Lith got a home seed which they wouldn't have had otherwise so maybe that was worth it for them.

Other potential opponents:
9th, Netherlands - probably better than us and beat us last year, but no monsters.
10th, Uruguay - one big looking C but nothing too scary.
11th, Russia
12th, Slovakia - Good gs and not sure I fancy them much either (beat us in the first game this season, but less effort on our part), at least less good than Russia.
13th, Belarus - definitely look beatable. Would've been the dream draw. (they've played 1 good team this season)

Maybe not that unlucky in the end? I just wanna play Belarus tbh.

This U21 game against Russia is really distracting me from my work but I can't stop watching...
