Game 1 of the Asian Championship

Australia headed to Taiwan for their first game against India. With many of the players being fans of the australian cricket side, they were out for blood hoping to get some respect back for the country. This wasnt going to be a hard task with the Indian basketball team not quite as good as there cricket team.

Australia went into the game under new coach Brooks, who was looking for a win in his first game at the helm. He had kept media quite during the week and told the player to do the same.

In the pre game shoot around you could see that the coach had opted to go for an outside based team bringing in Duffill and Vidas to play at the SF spot. This was probably the winning move for the team.

The first quarter saw a seesawing on the scoreboard with both teams going basket for basket and neither getting on a moment against the other team. The start of the second was the same until a scoring out burst from the aussies who managed to find another gear and a score 32 points for the quarter but it was really the defense that was a spectacular with them managing to keep the indians to just 15 points. This would set the tone for the third quarter where the lead was increased 27 points. This would be the finally winning margin of the game as the aussies just traded baskets for the third team.

After the game one of the reporters caught up with player of the game Shaun McArthur and asked him for his thoughts
"it was a great game we came out here to get the win and show we ment business and that second quarter said it all, i reckon it will be good for the coach aswell who seems to be like gillard in the opinion polls at the moment"
when asked about his own game he responded with, " It was a good game i just made the right decision and was seeing passes before they were there and my shooting was great shooting 50%, it just felt good though im suprised i beat Issac for the player of the game"

MVP voting as done by the officals

3 Shaun McArthur
Played a great all round game shooting 50% from the field for 17point and also collecting the 8 assits to go with his 2 steals and kept his opponent to 9/20 Fg and 0/4 3pg

2 Deion Isaac
The big man had a solid game collecting a double double with 14 rebounds and 24 points the three turnovers were costly though

1 Kyle Duffill
shot an incredible 66% collected 9 boards and was great on the defensive end

There next up opponent is Thailand tactics will posted on friday after a game shape update

Well there was a time when I use to be fan of Australian side(around 6years ago), but in my opinion IPL raised us to new level of cricket in last 3-4 years.
Same as that for us in bb, you laid a great foundation and I'm working to maintain it and the results & team look better from now.

Ohhhhh Gillespie and MacGill.... I'm happy to leave them out of my list. :)
Even Martyn is pushing it to make it in.

Hussey and Punter yeh for sure.

Gillespie is chronically underrated I think. Shudder to think how good he would have been if he didn't cop all those injuries, but still a better bowler than anyone we have now (though Pattinson is getting there). And how we would love to have MacGill now...

And Martyn is a bit underrated these days to - had an ordinary end to his career, but for much of it, he was a 50+ average player.

I should stop derailing this thread now.

Good writeup! +1

Would've gave you extra if you played Gab Wall as well =P

Thailand should be an easy win for us, they are a relatively small country, basketball wise.
