Ouch. Blank tonight? Some pretty weird substitutions...

Yikes!!! I don't think I would have run a blank tonight. Russia runs PF's at SF and while Tsunami was playing PG and SG Sendai was getting murdered at SF. It's shocking that Asano had more rebounds and assist then Sendai(17 minutes) and the same stats as Amori(22 minutes) while only playing 5 minutes.

Their bigs are monsters. No way on earth we can beat the top teams trying to do exactly what they're doing. This isn't swoosh's fault per se... it will require a change of how we ALL think/train...

Saw an amazing PF for Serbia for sale the other day... (14924112)
His JS/OD/Dr/IS/Ha were all ridiculously high (17-19). His Rb/ID/SB/Pa around 12...
It would require management on defense (with a system of shuffling), and to actually work would require a lot of us to be involved... and hell, to get the *right* players too (a 6'4" PF allows you to train like that!) - but it could be a way to exploit mismatches on offense, whilst keeping salary down.
Just a thought.

Tsunami played at point at times during the last game...

Maybe... but with our bigs getting hammered by $250k++ monsters, Tsunami's not going to have much of an impact wherever he plays - and at the point, he's just going to ensure that on the opposite end of the floor, problems with our over-matched bigs are compounded.

Reiterating (I may have said this once or twice before), we really need to rethink what we're doing - on an entire national level.
This last game highlighted what should be obvious: we're NEVER going to match it with the elite playing by the same set of rules.

What a pity we don't have a player like that, oh wait we do but he never plays. Just kidding Eita has 1 obvious big flaw but he is very close or better in 5/7 of those.

Takayoshi Kawagichi couldn't help us in that match & that was my fault, played him just 46 minutes last week & his GS dropped like crazy.

Was good to see Hideki Ochi have such a great game, top scored for us at a good clip (8/14) managed 4 steals & the opposing SGs shot just 6/14 for 12 points combined though I can't be sure who defended them all the time.

Takayoshi Kishita didn't do much in offence, surprise, but did grab 5 rebounds in 17 minutes.

Yusuke Furusawa had an off night by his normally very high standards.

Yuusuke Tsunami looked great in the box score no matter where he was playing, 2nd top score, good %, opponent was 2/10 looks great.

We were just let down too many fouls, & bad shooting by our bigs.
Furusawa 5/13
Yasujiro 6/15
Matsumoto 1/5

Please don't get all angsty on me again, but the reality of that is that if you have a guy like that - ON HIS LONESOME - then he's more bane than boon. As the rest of the comment stated (the bit that you left out) - it would require an entire team built around that type of concept... not merely a solitary guy who would create more problems than he solves. Honestly? If your guy IS built like that - then I kinda understand why he's not getting run.
I applaud you having a creative build tho' - and if more of us get on board with that kind of thinking, then I think we'll be moving on a path towards either greater success, or glorious failure. But I do believe we have to try something, because the *vs Russia* game just proved that we're near about at our plateau.

Ochi did do pretty well... but I have to admit to wondering why on earth isn't Kawagichi getting some run? Hell, the line-up had some pretty odd choices at the point at times. I'm assuming it was a complete blank, so the GE went to some insane levels of trying to find an appropriate answer there. Surely having a 110k point guard - even as a back-up - might help a lil'.

"Tsunami looked great"? You're only reading boxscores, right? I watched the game, and the team did not "look great" when Tsunami was at the guard spots. It created more mismatches in a game where we already had plenty of them to cope with. As wolph said - he's built to be an SF. And when playing there, he did do well.

No offense to Kishita, but he was rarely on vs starters. All of our bigs were woefully out-matched... but we weren't "let down" by anything. The reality is that at any position - at NT level - if you are running more than twice the salary with the same tactics, in all likelihood you're going to win.
Regardless of who was playing at the 4/5 slots, vs Russia's million+ dollars of bigs, they were going to get slaughtered.

Question for Swoosh: was that a complete blank?
And dude... don't get me wrong - I have no problem with the result. Please don't think I'm calling you into question on the game. Regardless of anything you tried, that result was inevitable.
