there are different theorys about the pace against an fcp, and both makes sense in their way:

play fast:
- less time you hold the ball, means less risk to loose it.
- you won't pass out the "transition*" basket so often

play slow:
- you play less risky passes which makes you less effected by the defence
- the transition baskets are so high percentage that you take them anyway, unless they aren't that good.

Overall i think you could be succesfull with both strategies, and fcp is normally pretty weak so that you haven't to worry much when the opponent plays it.

* in FCP you have very high percentage shots at the beginn of the shot clock, also most of the TO appears to be in the first second. This may be also caused while the press goes back to a normal D, as soon as the opposing teams reach the perimeter and could start their set play.

Here I would add one more:

- since FCP lowers your opponent's OD and ID by a significant margin, you want to have as much possesions as you can since your %FG will be higher than normal. And your turnovers are offset by his lower capability of rebounding.

i don't like this one, so much yes it is right when you most likely use your possesion better then your opponent more possesions make an underdog win more unlikely. but with fcp you already have lot more possesion then normal, and even with normal games i think it is more valuable to work on execution(so raise the average point scored per possesion). And mostly tactical decision become important, against opponents who are a very close in using a possesion(and more possesion are only preferable when you are the favourite)

Well, he has more possessions because of steals and you have more possessions because of your offensive rebounds (and his lack of off. reb.). So if his attack/your defense ratio is much better than your attack/his defense, you will lose. So not only does he has to have much better defense, but he's got to have also much better attack than your defense. The other way for him to win is if you have lousy offensive flow and he generates much more steals than he should.

In both examples he would win also by playing a normal defense, so I don't see a point in FCP other than chasing that point difference against bad teams that will put you over the top.

for me the possesion ends with def rebound, turnover or point scored, makes it a bit easier i think also you could argue then in general cases for higher pacer or lower - and for me that what more a general point for it.

worked for me not so good, but you a generally saying fcp you get crushed anyway so you will only play it when you are far in this case slow tactic would be more efficient to keep the pd low.

Also you forget about thos rare cases where a fcp makes sense, especially teams with 1/1(handling/passing) centers seems to get problems against it, search for benedict(could be also Benedikt) sticker and go back for the season where hewas 20/21. There many teams played fcp against him, cause they know their weakness but against a normal defence he works quite fine and played often in my U21 squad.

Chris Paul has great shooting stats, but he plays for New Orleans...it's relative.

A weaker team, but it looks like when my patient was "broken" it was because my passing was not high enough to get past the proficient team defense. So I retract my statement about passing being included in calculation.

Passing was 14, 10, 8, 6, 10 on pos 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
