fwiw, my center has proficient SB and averaged 1.8 bpg last season. He's the only player I've ever had above respectable SB. Hilariously, my blocks/game record is held by a scrub rookie who played one game at SF for me last season, and registered seven blocks. (However, my aforementioned center did get eight in a PL game.)

What makes you think that "rotates over to defend the play" marks shot blocking altering the shot? What other marks are there? I have never seen any I recognised as being related to shot blocking.

I think the point is that a player's defensive success in that situation could be affected by his ID rating only.

Okay, but this doesn't come up that often in a match (at least not the ones I just had a quick look at then). It doesn't seem to happen more than half a dozen times.
For example, I checked in the NZBL where the team has a phenomenal shot blocker, and looked at his games, and that line only comes up once in his last game, and twice in the game before that.

I agree it is probably undervalued a lot, but I just wish there was more evidence to back up what Charles is telling us. I don't believe he is deceiving us, but I don't want a team with shotblocking at 4 levels above ID because charles said it had more value that we gave credit.
