as a europian i have seen him play in the euroleague. he has great skills. but for the nba level he lacks weight/muscle. i am not sure that he weighs 240lbs. it seems too much. but that's just me . imho is really difficult to see him in this level at this point .

he definitelly cannot play C in nba. everybody will beat him up. but he is only 19 and he knows how to play. most of all it's about his work ethic. if he gets drafted this year and he is ready to work, i believe he can be a really good player.

i have the feeling that he will probably stay in europe for the next few years. maybe go to a team that competes for the euroleague title and then try the move in the nba.


wasn't there a rule that stated that non-american players should be at least 22 yo to be drafted?

The rule that you refer (i assume) says that every non American will be automatically eligible for the draft when he will be 22, even if he doesnt declare.

thats not 100% right, even when it fit for most cases. Every 22yo is automatically eligible in the draft, when he isn't visiting an american college.(and didn't try his luck in the draft before)

Valančiūnas gets MVP awards and leads Lithuania to u-19 WC gold medal awards, while USA rest at fifth place :) no hate, but hey, you got to give some credit for him. he might be biggest star of Lithuania basketball in the future :)

He'll have quite a way to go before he can claim that title. I don't see him surpassing Arvydas Sabonis all that soon.

That said, he might do it. I just doubt it'll happen any time soon.

i agree. but he's explosive. first to help his teammate get up, first to score when it's awfully needed. he's a team all alone by himself. this guy is amazing :) he's an inspiration.

He is indeed, and I love his game. Still, there's an awfully long way to go from inspiration to legend, and a Sabonis definitely was both.

again, i can't agree more, but somehow i feel some pessimistic vibration from you :) maybe that's because you're not from Lithuania :D i think, with his determination, his character and the potential... he'll be a legend here in Lithuania. maybe bigger than Sabonis. and we forget one more piece of a puzzle. Motiejūnas. D-Mo is as talented as is Jonas. D-Mo is more of a power forward. i think in 5-6 years we might see a very intresting battles USA vs Lithuania :) at least i hope so :)

Nah. It's just that I'm usually unwilling to give people the laurels in advance, as we say in German ;) He has the potential, that's for sure. But Sabonis was really a great player and possibly underrated like few others. But it takes a single unlucky injury and his career would be cut short, or he might fail to reach his limit. We simply can't know in advance.
