The height of a player only affects training. His 6'2" height means his outside skills will be easier to improve and he will be best suited for a PG or SG. If you want him as SG you don't need to worry about driving, passing, or handling but they will help him overall. If I were you I would do some Pressure/Jump Range training to raise his Outside Defense and outside shooting. Defense is a vital skill for every player so I try to keep it as one of the top 3 highest skills for a player.
In the matchup ratings you see in game overview, the outside defense is heavily weighed on the PG and medium weight on the SG, and some weight on SF (more on SF in 3-2 zone).

And on a major note: McCready's game shape is terrible which means he won't play very well in games. You can raise it by getting his weekly minutes between 60 and 72. More than 72 minutes will deteriorate his game shape. I think an argument on the forums about an exact number was settled at about 65 minutes.
What I do to get those minutes is start a player and give him subs. They will get between 30 and 40 minutes depending on how close the game is. Then you can decide to start him again or put him as a substitue which gets 5-12 minutes per game. I use the scrimmage game to balance minutea on the players that need them. I will start players without subs if their current minutes plus 48 will be under 75. And be sure to remove players with 70 or more minutes so they are not on the bench. They can still be substituted if a player fouls out.
Use this guide for more information (it is a long read and a little outdated but worth it and should be bookmarked):

Sweet. It's a wonder how I've been playing this game since season 14 and am even this league XO. Thanks for the help! Time to take a closer look at the forums.

Yeah, enthusiasm and game shape are two commonly overlooked things. I didn't pay much attention to GS. If I have a guy coming back from injury with GS of 5 or lower, I like to give them run in that week's scrimmage, to help get it back for league play.

If you go TIE with enthusiasm, you team "banks" enthusiasm. So when you play a game on Normal or CT, their performance is enhanced. During the first half of the season, I tend to counter the importance of certain league games vs. Cup opponent strength in making enthusiasm decisions. It essentially resets during the All Star Game week.

Most of my players I keep at strong or better game shape. They only drop below if their minutes get messed up. My coach sometimes refuses to pick from the depth chart contrary to my lineup settings. And I use Take It Easy for all of my games except rivalries or other important wins.
I won my last few games and my attendance jumped significantly, especially against Grand Reign, my rival. I am surprised I won my games against the top 2 teams in the Big 8 but now I get to face #1 on the other side.

The struggle of when I was about to finally gain some momentum for home games but I'm going to have 2 losses right before coming home for an easy game. Sad week.

Can anyone explain how I even won this game? The talent discrepancy looked massive going into this and I know they were going easy and got one of the predictions wrong. Still looked like it should have been an easy win for them.

If you are talking about your scrimmage just look at his 3pt shots. He went 3-23 so he had a poor shot selection. You were out rebounded by 8 but he had +4 turnovers to your +4 steals. Then look at your field goals. He took 3 more shots but had a poor selection after missing 20 from 3 point range.
I wouldn't recommend anything but Take It Easy for scrimmages. Your effort helped you win the game but it will cost you in your next league games. Use TIE unless your are on a losing streak and need a morale boost or if you have a rivalry game, TV game, or a must win for playoff spot, playoff game, or relegation game. My enthusiasm right now is Motivated but will probably drop 1 or 2 before Saturday's game.
EDIT: I just realized that was a cup game. Your fans will really appreciate winning those games and your world rank gets a good boost. I don't blame you for pushing for a win. The furthest I made it in the cup was facing 3 bots in a row and then a weak team with a lower rank than me.

Yep. Nice win. Your CT enthusiasm was one key difference, as were your game plan hits (+2) and his game plan miss...guessing and missing is worse than not having planned at all.
