In my experience in this league, it doesn't seem like too many guys scout at all. Especially the guys that are still here from last season. I think you'd do well to use some of your points, regardless of where you finish up. Just let me know whether you're looking for guards or bigs so that I can pick the opposite.

It's too bad you didn't catch Sockdologizers a week later. His GS is steadily decreasing....

Exceptional. It's just a freak thing. I've been real happy with that level doctor. I've had a bunch of guys get hurt in game and not miss time afterwards.

argh - I was | | <--- that close to going 2-3 zone and 2x GDP'ing inside/fast. I don't know if that would have been enough without going normal, but it might have. In the end I decided against guessing. I think that was a mistake as without all the GDP and changing up my defense, I knew I didn't have much of a shot. I didn't have anything to lose, really.

Ah well. Live and learn.

The rest of the results are kind of surprising in that only 2 home teams won today. So much for home court advantage! hah

Tucumcari is solid this season. I’ve always hated the 2-3 zone, and his guards are so good it probably wouldn’t have helped. GDP might’ve cut the deficit in half, though.

This season has been interesting. There’s not much depth in the league. Seems to be about 6 quality teams, 3 on each side, with Tucumcari, Chewbacca, and TT being a cut above.

After the first round of conference games, here are updated power rankings:

Contenders for Promotion

1. Tucumcari Whalers (preseason: 3) - I'm feeling better about my preseason pick for promotion. If you think he's dominant now, wait until the playoffs, when his trainees are worth ~ $60k - $80k combined more than what he's paying right now.

2. Sir Chewbacca (5) - bsopchak has played the first 7 games perfectly. He may have peaked too early with his CT of the Trees, though.

3. Tallahassee Trees (2) - Laron may be in 3rd place in the Great 8, but it's taken HCA and an enthusiasm advantage to get the best of him. I still believe he has the best team in the Great 8.

4. Diamantes (4) - Solid team, few weaknesses. Accomplishes more with the salary on his team than just about anyone else in the league.

Almost, but Not Quite

5. PV Pride (6) - Solid defensive and rebounding team. Lacks the scoring punch to be a contender.

6. GoZags (9) - GoZags lacks the depth to compete for the title this season, but with his quality trainees, it won't be long before he's competing for promotion.

7. D-City Smokers (1) - After taking the league by storm through season 42's first 15 games, tnjay's boys have underwhelmed since. Game shape issues and tactical errors have been a problem. While tnjay is confident in his team, it isn't often that you see a team recover from major early season issues.

8. Missouri City Sounders (11) - Deucie's experience has paid off as he has represented himself quite well through the first 7 games, with a roster that is low on talent. There's not nearly enough here to compete for promotion, but he should stick around for another season.

Duking It Out To Avoid Relegation

9. Burlington Orbitals (13) - Josiah's team is decent enough, especially on the perimeter, but he's destined for the 5th or 6th seed with the quality of the teams ahead of him.

10. Sandy Springs Basketball Club (10) - Hank has a quality D4 roster, but he lacks the star power to compete in D3. If he can stick around for another year or two, those trainees will be pretty impressive...

11. Georgia Heat (14) - Finally added some talent and doubled his win total tonight. We'll see how those transactions pan out once they get into proper game shape.

12. The Front of Armament (12) - This team might be decent, but the game shape issues are so bad that it's impossible to tell.

13. The Brewskies (8) - Coach Fillmore seems averse to buying players, but it's going to take a bit of an overhaul to stay in D3.

See ya!

14. Silent Apples (7) - There's no doubt that Mr. Apples is capable of competing. From the looks of it, though, he's content to secure a high draft position and rebuild through relegation.

15. wilcats (15) - Has the salary to be successful but has greatly underachieved in D3.

16. Sockdologizers (16) - If Kingpin logs in tomorrow, he shoots to the top 4 or 5 in the league. Otherwise, we'll have our first bot on Monday.
