A center with average ID will do a better job defending against a center who has sensational IS and atrocious JS and DR, than against a center with prominent IS and respectable JS and DR, even if we're only talking about inside shots in the paint. He will stand back, leave him open for the jumper, and he will know what's comming. That in itself is a huge advantage in basketball.
The best one-on-one players in basketball are the ones who can either shoot, drive and finish. You can't leave them open, but if you run at them, they blow past you.
