I am of the opinion that scouting is more important at the higher levels. Think about it; if you're a level IV team (as I am), are you really going to be able to draft a John Wall, no matter how much money you spend on scouting? Great players simply aren't available to you.

quality of the draftees doesn't depend on the division. you can draft john wall or even MJ in division V.

In my USA Level IV League, my first three drafts, scouting at 10K and picking between 5th and 13th, produced some very talented players - 4 of which I've been developing, several that I was able to sell for 300K plus.

Last season I had increased scouting to 20K, ended picking 15th. All three of my players were busts who I had cut, or sold for 1K.

this season, I will pick 16th, and I've been scouting at 5K. As people have said earlier, I'd rather save the money and purchase young talent -- the draft is so random, esp as you get into the later picks.

What I think would be fun is if you could see your first round pick, then reset the order for the second round - just seems there's not a lot of control over the players you are drafting. -oo-

Seriously? Wow, that shatters my conceptions.

But what's still unclear is how spending more money increases your chances of getting a great player. Especially if you pick late in the draft.

Spending more money gets you more information on players

Getting more information on players gives you better idea on who is a better player in the draft

Though I agree if you pick late in the draft you might not want to spend that much money since there will be people picking before you. especiially in the competitive higher divisions

i totally agree that 10k or 20k should be the best value for money in most cases.
but from another point of view: since the revaluation of local players and the allaround crying about the high prices on the transfer market - shouldn't you spend more the later u pick, for still getting at least a nice first rounder?
maybe u dont get the 18y old 7k hall of famer but still a player which u can ad to your rotation some day.

ye i started pretty late last season and didnt spend overly much on draft but still got my number one pick:

Nick Hutt (12019351)

Centre

Weekly salary: $ 6 869

DMI: 112700
Age: 18
Height: 6'10" / 208 cm
Potential: perennial allstar
Game Shape: proficient

Obviously his DMI and Game shape were different at the beginning of the season but with the right training this type of player will easily make the national team. remember though potential doesn't affect training speed, height and age do. But a starting salary of nearly 7k is very good, i believe.

It doesnt increase your chances at all, it just lets you see more players in the draft list, that way you can make better preferences. Even if you pick late in the draft though you may have scouted a player no one else has and therefore no one else will pick him, thats why usually in the lower leagues if you look at the draft histories you'll notice that in the first round of picking almost everyone every time gets their first preference.

good player, but, you need to have bot team's in your league, and also to have a lot of luck to pick them before bot 's :-)
And, if you have bot team's, you can pick up such a player spending just 5-10k on draft, or even nothing.

well you can still pick him up in a bot league spending nothing but your chances are similar to the bots to really find all the hidden gems you need to spend much more

i only spend 10K but I will probably get the third last pick and there aren't many bot in my league

if i was in a low league or down near the bottom of any leage i would spend a lot more that one pick can be the thing that changes the fortune of your entire team if you do get a $1,000,000 player
