the question about the "last season" point in the survey for me, is it how it recognized the past. Imho your fans lower your expectations depending on your team succes in the past, so getting 6th could also raise your survey point in two seasons and make the loss through this smaller(only my theory)

Bottom line is you if you can tank to finish 6th and can win your p/o thats better than picking up 1/3 of 1 game road defeat. Maybe the long-term calculation gives the edge to the 4th place team but honestly who thinks like this and this is also assuming you have your ticket prices nailed on price wise.

but you do realize, that you took money and lost more in the end? now 4th and 3rd team did not. and if you do this every season eventually you should find yourself in the position that you even can't reach 6th. maybe it will be very long for this to happen, but it should.

I realise this. But what if you get your ticket prices wrong? What if you get a big injury or your opponents strengthen and you quickly fall from a playoff contender to a relegation battler anyway the following season?

Most people will take $300k now cash rather than $350k (just examples) paid to them over the future weeks. Again the $350k is down to good management and luck.

Also, you can use the $300k to buy a trainee and train for half a season to make more than $50k profit I would guess?? *or add the $50k you lose to the value of the better draft pick you end up getting?

of course many different factors comes into play, but if we exclude everything, 3rd and 4th are better than 6th. the bottom line - people will do what they prefer. we do not need to make higher places more attractive, just because people are willing to fight for a chance to relegate.

One solution is to have 14 teams in each division

1-4 : PO
5-6 : PL
7 : relegate

Of course this is a major change but at least every team will have something to fight for at the end of the season.

The reduced salary payment for weeks without a competitive match could solve the problem.

Another suggestion: The 5th teams could play a decisive match for the better draft position. This would have the advantage of a little excitement for the 5th placed teams, additional income etc.

if you still think there's a problem, then only 1 relegation game instead of series until 2 wins, should make 6th place less attractive.

You could also have the 5th place team play the 8 th place team...this would allow the 5th place team to make money and not punish people would finished 8th in a much stronger conference.

Maybe on the monday before the playoff start the 5th place team could play the 4th place team an winner would go to the playoffs.

NO,you earn the playoff during all the season,it's just ridicoulous.
I think the solution is to give some income to the friendly matches between the teams that arrive 5th and 8th in the league, maybe it could work as the cup incomes with a certain income depending from the division they are in
