I know everyone is trying to be nice but, they are most likely wasting their time. If he doesn't invest 15 minutes to read the game manual, chances are that he won't sustain his team.

A lot of guys are really helpful on the forums, but if you keep asking the basic questions and wasting their time, because you didn't want to invest yours into game manual, that's really not ok. You also have this thread that's very helpful:

Scrimmages enable you to make sure your players play at least 48 mins per week to help maintain good game shape if you have been knocked out of the cup - you don't need to play if you have a small roster but the scrimmage allows you to get extra minutes for your fringe players. Its also really good if you are training up young players that aren't skilled enough to compete in league games.
