Nice rookie. I wouldnt bother with the outside d, it'll be way too slow for what it's worth for your big man.
If you really want him to stand out, I'd go with a mix of One on One and Jumpshot until the all star break and then switch to jump range for the rest of the season.
Next season get the passing up to average/respectable and then just blast those 'big man skills'.
By the time he's 21 you'll have a killer PF that should be very hard to stop and will be able to play in any offense.

Cheers,
Just out of curiousity, why do you suggest training the guard skills before the big man skills? Does it matter if I train the big man skills first and then train the guard skills?

I think it is because when he is young 18 yo he will train faster and the height bonus lets it easier to train inside. So if you train inside first then when he is 19/20 yo you will train outside and it will be harder to train because of age and height.

Hope its not to confusing.

Exactly. If you're going to train a player out of position, it's best to do it young if you can while training speeds are the fastest.
Stuff like Jump Shot isn't really out of position but if you're only training it for a season or so, you want the best results possible.

Well so far this season he had had a pop in Stamina, Inside Shot and Inside Defence now. (ID popped this week). And I am going to do one-on-one training this coming week. Just wondering if you would suggest training it as Forwards or Guards? Forwards seems to train Driving and Handling much quicker, but takes an extra week or so for a pop in JS, but it also trains Inside Shot. Guards seems to train driving and handling a little slower but gives a pop in jump shot every 3-4 weeks, but no training on inside shot.

It seems to me like training Forwards is a bigger advantage, but just thought I'd ask anyway.
Cheers

I always do one on one training with forwards because of IS. For a C definately do forwards because you are training outside skills and not all outside trainings also improve inside skills. Play him as PF this week.

Train one on one when they're older. Secondaries are not as important as getting his primaries up first.

Bah, just finished a big post and my phone wouldn't post it. Hope this one works.

Something nearly all big man trainers tend to forget about are the salaries that big men can be hit with. Sure, you could train a IS/ID/REB monster but
A) he won't be as effective as a well rounded player
B) his salary will get out of control so quickly that you'll be forced to either stop training him or sell him while he's still fairly young.

I recommend spending the first season or so rounding out those 'guard skills' if you can because you'll have a better player in the long run and be able to handle your salaries more easily as well.

As far as this issue goes, like I said before: if you're only training those guard skills for a season or so, you want to maximize your results by doing it young.
Completely up to you and what's best for your team though.

I suppose he's right too. I rounded up my player when he was 20.
