well doing some numbers its very obvious that people are still spending money on scouting points, but its very hard to determine who is actually spending those points.

ive freely admitted that im not worrying about the draft this year, you would assume that northcote + TL +All-sorts are scouting the entire draft, vios and vipers arent,

but it depends on what TL, northcote and all-sorts are doing. they might actually be not spending any of their scouting points. its a mystery so its a bit hard to say.

but in answer to your question, you get to pick earlier if you finish lower... doesnt mean you will get a better player. Just means you have a better chance of getting your priority picks than compared to if you finished higher.

Matt made a ton of money when I bought Maclean off him many many seasons ago :)

$1,500,000 was a nice little pay day. :p

So most of us admit we don't scout. So does that mean if you finish low you get a better player anyway?

Nope, you get an earlier pick in the draft, but it's total luck whether he will be any good or not.

I think the draft is basically a crapshoot.

The initial scouting is 100% luck - you might scout 15 guys and they could all be rubbish, or scout 5 guys and they all be great, it's really all luck.

Other than spending a fortune (or saving up a bunch of points over a number of seasons) and scouting all the players, it really just gets down to luck.

I think you're right about it being one of the only ways to get an U20 potential player (unless you're prepared to spend big for him on the transfer list), but having a player play for the national team doesn't give you a significant benefit anyway (other than maybe an increase in merchandise).

All in all, I still think it's just luck - either good or bad depending on what draftees you end up with. :p

Scouting Combine and Group Demonstration.
I dont anyone ever starts out just scouting all the players. The first thing that people do, is one of the two above.
So their first 10 points are basically about helping to narrow their choices and this gives them direction as to where to head from there.
These two tools also help eliminate a user from having to 'scout all the players'. I dont think anyone has ever done that. You do the group demo and basically, you find out a lot of the duds or guys that you arent interested in. This very convieniently narrows the odds on all the other guys.
So suddenly finding that pot of gold isnt 4 in 48... it might be 4 in 30. Or the scouting combine narrows it down by age. If you are only interested in 18 year olds, then this pretty cuts your selection in half. (roughly half will be 18 the other half 19).

So 10 points for scouting combine, leaves you with 24 guys to pick from. The SC also tells u their height, so of those 24 you can start with the tallest/shortest guys, and work ur way down from there. 10 pts plus another 10 to do another basic scout on them might give u the 5 tallest and shortest 18 year olds in the draft. thats 10 guys in the draft.
Doing my maths, there is usually 4-5 all-star plus potentialy 18 year olds in the draft, so statistically speaking you now have extremely good odds of having found one of those guys.

So 20 points ($100k) used up. So if i said to you for $100k I could find out the age and height of all the draftee's, plus the skill rating of the 5 tallest and 5 shortest 18 year olds, i reckon thats a pretty good deal!

I believe in the draft and always do some scouting, unless I am right near the top. I have scouted this year although despite being 7th I will get 6th pick or something like that due to the inability of the other conference to.win games. Just changes the way I scout.

Regans is a good theory if you are getting top pick or like 2,3 or 4. Hopefully everything goes how I expect it to and I can come away with something decent.

Same here. Lol I would actually be 1st in the Great 8 rather than 6th in Big 8. So if the season ended today I would get 6th last pick & get relegated lol. The last 2 weeks will be fun :D

well you can keep your 6th spot, as i would rather not come up against TL or All-Sorts, unless they both have a desire to relegate.

I have a feeling that tomorrow's match will be a double forfiet

If I made the ABBL and was likely to get smashed, I may consider going a full tank and then perhaps I would put money into the draft. Other than that, I really can't see myself doing it.
