I am fairly sure DIV IV in USA is much tougher than DIV IV in Australia which is the bottom level here with at least half the teams being bots.

heyyyyy, i'm not THAT bad....

I threw 2 games at the beginning of the season, i played the top 2 teams on TIE, just for the added enthusiasm. I havent lost a game (league game) since then and i'm now 2nd instead of 3rd, I guess i may have been able to do it without throwing those games at the beginning but i can guarantee that throwing those games made this season a LOT easier for me, even allowing me to have enthusiasm levels of 9 etc for tv games, giving me bigger wins and overall more money.

I guess if you are coming 5th and want to play in the relegation games and get a better pick in the draft it may be worth tanking the last few games to become 7th or even 8th, but just make sure you can win the relegation games!

Looks like whoever wins the Great 8 will promote in your league so good luck in the playoffs. If you can do anything to get home court advantage it may be worth it. If not a last minute player purchase can sometimes throw your opponents off.

Though to be fair, salary can also be a bit misleading especially when they are 1 dimensional guys (like very good shooting with no D or a very good rebounder with no defence, etc) which would jack up salaries. I had that last season. The winner of the other conference had 2 x 15k guys and a 20k guy and my best player was only on a 9k salary and yet managed to smack him in the playoffs and gain promotion to division 2!

I'm wondering if anyone ever throws games in the finals to get an extra home game? :)

i made it in my first season, but today i wouldn't do it anymore but this tactic still exist. But if your opponent wins surprisingly, it hurt a lot.

Yes. Has been done before and is a good tactic if you know you can smash the other team.

i.e. win first game. tank 2nd game. Win the 3rd. You get an extra game of income

Or by some unfortunate incidence you lose the 3rd game and hence lose a whole season of increased income. Not worth the risk.

It depends how you perceive your opponent will perform.

When I was in div IV, my playoff final was against an relatively inactive team. I beat him by 20 in the first game at home. I knew I could smash him again so I tanked the second game, played TIE and then went to beat him again in game 3. Extra match income.

In div III, my playoff final was against an active team. I just squeezed in a victory away in game 1. Having just won away from home, I had no intention of taking it to game 3 if I could help it as winning away from home is not an easy task so I played to win game 2.

Thats what i was thinking the first game is the key. If you win as the away team as u said i wouldn't be tanking the home game. If you win as the home team by a lot you would be pretty safe TIE the next game then winning the 3rd game. If u just win the first game its a bit trickier. Try and win in 2 or hoping the extra enthusiasm u get by TIE is enough for game 3.
