To be honest I was actually surprised when I saw the score... I didn't think I had a shot even if all this other stuff factored in.

I watched this game live and after the first quarter I actually didn't feel like my team needed a complete rebuild or belonged in division 10. And remember in the playoffs your team won't be allowed to TIE...I really have no chance lol.

I've got respect for both of your teams (RSAS was in III.6 with FM's) but it really all just comes down to: you can't trust anything about the first game of the season.

With no enthusiasm or game-shape to moderate things, effort/HCA become overly large factors, and games also seem to turn more easily on a random run of fouls or hot shooting night.

That doesn't mean FM shouldn't have won, just saying the first game is usually not very helpful (good or bad) for getting a feel for how well your team will perform over the long haul.

Totally agree, this feels like the first time in five seasons that I've TIE'd with a real lineup on week one because home court and effort feels like all that matters this early.

Good to see you again by the way, although I guess you almost got out of this league last season.

my previous experience with DII taught me that figuring out what coaches were doing at this level could be quite challenging. for several teams, we will only know their true strength come playoff time. but for now, some strange things from the first game for all teams caught my eye:

-- Valhalla plays 5 guys the first game. and wins by 33.

-- Ron Swanson plays 5 guys the first game. the result was not as favorable.

-- Visionaries and The King and I won with free throws. Both teams hit 20 more FTs, helping the Visionaries to win by 20 and The King and I to win by 4. Only time will tell whether this involved "one of those nights" for the losing teams, or if they were helplessly fouling because they could not keep up defensively.

-- i'm not saying a thing about Kentucky except they dumped $250,000 in salary in one sale, which is pretty impressive when you think about it. i remember having entire teams make less than that. and i wonder how many sales go through where the sales price is less than the salary level?

for myself, i like the first two games because you get a clear idea of a players base skills without the complication of GS or ENTH. for veteran players, i will often look back at these games later in the season when i am looking for clues about a player's range of skills.

and for first impressions, Visionaries and Atlanta had impressively deep set of game ratings. and Black Wall Street won going away with a trainee at PG.

we are on our way, and good luck to one and all.

I want to experiment with base offense, but I'm concerned about its continuing underperformance no matter what skill sets I develop for my players. If it keeps drawing free throws like that, though, it can make up for 65 missed putback attempts per game... time will tell!

If you could get anything from my games I played Base almost exclusively last season, perhaps there is a hidden nugget of knowledge somewhere in there I missed completely.
