I totally agree with you. Personally I convinced 2 friends of joining BB and their teams are already bots again. One of them even really likes manager style games and loves basketball, so the only reason he stopped logging in was clearly that it failed to get his interest.

Anyway in the midesason news post there's a big missing part:
Where are spent the donation funds right now, how much there's to spend yet right now and what are the plans to advertise the game?
Without a clear policy about that I doubt there will be any future for the collection.

I guess this is clearly related with the first part of the news.
Some campaigns have been made and you could see that the number of users has increase at a good rate, but unfortunately, they are users who are attracted by the campaign but don't continue playing.
From my point of view, it's very important to improve the first impression new users have when they come to BB. If we can keep them interested time enough, there will be more chances that they like the game and continue with their teams. So for me, it's a first step before a new big campaign is released.

The easiest way to keep new users interested is to stop placing them in leagues in which they can't compete. I just spent about eight seasons in Div.IV before promoting back to Div.III this season. Every season in IV, three or four teams would go bot and be replaced by scrub teams. Every one of those scrub teams would then get destroyed by 50, 80, 100 points nearly every game by teams whose owners have been playing BB for 10, 20 or more seasons. It's no wonder that many of those new owners didn't log in after a week or two of butt-whoopins' with no chance to compete, let alone win.

You want to keep new owners around longer? Put all the new users in each country's lowest division playing against other new users who also have scrub teams and are just learning the game.

That's clearly one of the things that could be changed, yeah.
But it's not the only issue that we have to face. A user who likes the game and has a link with his team it's more likely to accept that this is not a game where you have things to do each time you log in, or that some decision requires a long term planification.
We need to keep them interested till this happens and some of the current code projects have that goal. More tasks, better teams, maybe some special features...
We all know that BB is not an online game for everyone, but I do believe that there are a lot of users who would continue playing if we find a better system for new teams.

technically speaking, D4 in the US is the lowest league...there are not that many active teams in D5, if human teams don't replace the bot teams in D4, you have 2 half bot, half human divisions in the US

Didn't realize that with the loss of so many users, Div.V isn't populated much these days. However, I would have much preferred continuing playing bot teams with their same rosters to having five or six blowouts against scrub teams each season when I as in IV.

I think it would be a small sacrifice to leave bot teams in the higher divisions while Div.5 is repopulated with new users so they can compete against similar teams before facing longtime, veteran owners.

Why? There is also positive aspects to less shuffling like forming long-term rivalries with league opponents.
The tanking issue that you mentioned seems to be a much more valid argument than some vague freshness.
Because I heard more people complaining about being stuck in the same league forever than people who had lost some kind of long time rival. Rivalries are a good idea (maybe) on paper, but in reality most people don't really care about them if not for their effect on the fan survey...

The wear and tear from staying in the same place against the same people for ages is worse. It's anecdotal evidence, so take it with a grain of salt, but in utopia it's not like they shift 8 teams per league so there is continuity anyway.

Imo this problem can only be solved by some kind of GE-fix.

I recently joined Utopia and have a 0% winning record so far (few walkovers), because I can't buy any decent players that will help me long term - so I chose to lose anyways. Some older teams in my league are already transferring players for millions. I am nowhere near, just blew another weeks saving (130k or so) for arena expansion. Sickest sheet ever: I pay for this kind of entertainment.

Losses by more than 30-40 points should be impossible by default. So there should be a huge bonus applied to underdogs - some kind of help, that makes losses more bearable and give the impression, they are close enough to catch up.

If I am not mistake, there is a thread for donators where the ways of investment of this funds are discussed.

Because I always want to improve. Only can think that the other people too. Just one more chance. Not like Utopía.

When you're so competitive, then why don't you embrace having to win your league to get promoted?
Maybe it's just me, but i actually like having to be the best to get a reward. Wouldn't more promoted teams actually decrease competition?

In specific scenarios two very good teams are forced to play between them and in other leagues weak teams get the promotion easily. In this particular cases more promotions can solve this situation.

Best idea ever! Betray the newbies to a wrong understanding of the game. Then when they buy better players they will actually lose higher because they lose the underdog-bonus. They will be totally confused. Muhahahaha!!!

Thx for your sarcasm.
