I'm not a UX designer, so bear in mind my probable lack of fashion sense. My first thought was something more universally recognized as an edit symbol. Something like this maybe:

Another idea that crossed my mind would be similar to a mugshot silhouette which could be replaced with the players image or something when the position was filled. For lack of a better example:

A marker and clipboard icon might also fit the basketball style, but the other options I mentioned may be either more recognizable or easier to scale.

I noticed that the player injury type in the app differs from the web version. My player is out due to "facial cuts" but in the app it says "bruised knee". The duration of the injury is correct though, just the type of injury is presented differently.

Actually a great training facility
Samsung S20FE:

App opens, tries to load up, goes back to main screen, you open it again and it loads fine. Can't replicate tbh, one time occasion
