Yes, and Leggett was our defending MVP.

I forgot all about that. And after the fit I threw? Jeebus.

Well, it wasn't just you. Biased as I was, I didn't think that Leggett was in fact the league MVP.

Anyone else have their merch income go down this week?

I'm on a 3-game winning streak (5 if you include Cup games) but my merch went down by $5k. What the hell.

Actually, mine went up a little. But I think my fans are still euphoric from promotion. I'm waiting for the huge drop in merch once I lose this cup game and spend a little more time in Div II.

But that is strange. I'm now bracing for an even larger drop.

I don't really understand the merchandise figures either. And one definite thing: I'll defy anyone to accurately guess what their upcoming merchandise might be...

Okay, since it's gone relatively quiet around here, and we're heading into the home stretch of the season, I have to ask:

Is the Big 8 really as bad as we look?

Only 2 teams over .500, where the Great 8 has 6 teams that can claim this. Would Shock Wave be in contention for a playoff spot if they were on this side of the conference, rather than struggling against a potential relegation playoff on the Great 8 side of things?

Conversely, would my Machines and ChiTown have the records we currently do over on the other side of the fence?

A very good question, certainly one that may create some debate. I'm not sure how to weigh in on it. But I have said before—and will say it again—our league is far and away the most competitive of the IIs. Many of our second-division teams would fare very well in the other leagues, IMO.

I planned on being competitive but not a championship team in my first season. I am pretty much right where I expected to be, but am a little surprised there aren't more teams ahead of me.

I went 2-6 against the other division but feel like 2 of those games could have swung either way.

That might be a pretty decent way to gauge things.

Vs. Great 8:
ChiTown 6-2
Machines 6-2
SlipNslidE 4-4
Jests 2-6
Postal 2-6
Bass 2-6
PSP 1-7
Vipers 0-8 (but botified, so kinda irrelevant)

Vs. Big 8:
Hobos 7-1
Quakers 6-2
PBS 6-2
Koalas 6-2
RiverDogs 6-2
REO 4-4
Shock 5-3
sphinx 1-7

This is rather inconclusive, however, when you take into consideration that a fair number of us were still in the Cup during most of this time, and there were league matches thrown to make up for rough Cup draws. Also, everyone in the Great 8 got a free win against Vipers, who accounted for the only win by sphinx (who also has gone 2 weeks without logging in, and basically has given away 3-5 free wins to the Big 8 during that span).

In addition, there's home/away to factor into things, and I really can't be bothered to go through all the games and tally up who played where and whether they won or lost. I'm guessing it's an even 4-4 split between home and away, but as I said I haven't checked, and sometimes the schedule is screwey with that type of stuff.

More Big 8 teams lasted further in the Cup than Great 8 teams. Was that based on strength of schedule, depth of team, or just random dumb luck?
