I think that the offensive flow formula is dependent on the skills of each player, weighted by position and by minutes played, but not by their actual performances. I think the cause for the offensive flow formula varying has to due with the different amounts of playing time from game to game.

Agree... but don't forget the game shape, also important to me.

I completely agree. (I was thinking of game shape as affecting the skills of each player but didn't write it explicitly.)

Um no, you don't understand. Match ratings are calculated based on player skills. So given a certain set of skills and game shape, you will always have the same match ratings.
So, if a team played two home games in a week with the exact same level of enthusiasm (which they could do by using normal for each game) and no injuries, their match ratings would be exactly the same?

I found this really interesting, and after reading through the thread, decided to do some research. I checked some transfers with decent handling (HN) & passing (PS) and their current owners' range of offensive flow (OF):

1
HN: proficient
PS: respectable
OF: inept (low) - inept (medium)

2
HN: strong
PS: strong
OF: awful (medium) - inept (medium)

3
HN: respectable
PS: prolific
OF: inept (medium) - inept (high)

4
HN: proficient
PS: respectable
OF: inept (low) - inept (high)

I found around 10 more that were respectable/strong and their OF range was from pitiful (high) - mediocre (low). [Note: there are currently 109 players on the TL that are respectable or better in both HN & PS, and I can't be arsed to check them all]

There are a couple of things this suggests to me:
A) there aren't currently high enough levels of HN/PS to make a large impact on OF ratings, or
B) Tactics, opponent players' skills, and/or opponent's ratings affect OF, or
C) a combination of A) and.

Enthusiasm has to be strictly 5, because it will otherwise fall between games. :)
If a team normaled every game, then I assume they'd be exactly 5.
I would think ratings should be exactly the same, but now that I think of it, they will probably be affected of now the rotation pans out - i.e. if your backups get more time in one of the games, that will likely change the ratings.
Phooey, you didn't fall for my trap. I'm quite convinced that minutes affect things. For instance, look at any bot team that was in the cup. In the week of their cup game, they'd have 2 home games or 2 away games with the same enthusiasm and same lineup. The ratings, however, don't match up. (Well, they didn't for the one bot I looked at, anyway. It has been a bot for the whole season, so no enthusiasm issues there. I suppose it could have had an injured player, meaning a different lineup, but I'm confident enough that I won't check. :) )

I thought I had a handle on this rating, but with further research, I don't know nothin'.

In my game last night, I had an OF of Inept(Low), a rating my team rose to after a round of passing training and the purchase of RESPECTABLE handling and passing PG. So I check out the transfer list to seek further improvement and I find a lad with STRONG handling and PROLIFIC passing. Wondering how much this wonder boy would improve my OF, I checked out his last start, in which he earned a 7.0.

His team played at AWFUL(MEDIUM)!! Worse than me!!

This makes absolutely no sense to me. How is this possible?

Any thoughts?

His stamina is STRONG, too in case you were considering that response.

I think that it is more than one players skills that makes the OF differ...

not just the PG, or am i out on wrong railroad?=)

No kidding. Do you want help or not, man? Defensive skills and defensive tactics are totally different. You could be playing full court press with five Michael Coopers or you could be playing full court press with five World B. Frees. People are trying to help you, pal, and you just snidely shoot them all down.

Once I scored a basket that still makes me laugh.

Are you talking to me? Cause I think we just more or less said the same thing.
