Tough, your D4 league might as well be a D3 league just by looking at it.

You are off your rocker. That league couldn't hold a candle to D.III.

If you make sure you keep a healthy weekly income that allows you to save/invest some money, you should balance your expenses on new players (if you can afford to cut down your weekly income if you're on the high side and need some reinforcements to win) and expending your arena (if you're winning but your income is low).

yea, our league stinks in big men and well, those guards you see there, most of them are the ordinary guards....not the extra-ordinary ones (the ones who are for LI and balanced)

Okay, just got (4844751) for 52K. I know he's old but he should be able to help me for this season ans possibly the next. Here's his stats:
Jump Shot: proficient Jump Range: mediocre
Outside Def.: prominent ↓ Handling: wondrous
Driving: prolific Passing: prominent
Inside Shot: mediocre Inside Def.: inept
Rebounding: pitiful Shot Blocking: awful
Stamina: proficient Free Throw: average

Experience: wondrous

What tactic should I use now? I'm thinking Motion or RnG.

I would go with RnG. They both have outstanding stamina. The only concern will be managing game shape but since you are out of the cup that should not be too much of an issue.

You should add a center or power forward that can rebound and play defense to beat Kool Aiders next week. You will have an advantage with Enthusiasm so if you play normal you should win.

After that you may want to consider adding a couple backups around the 6-10 salary range. From there you should be set for the season with a goal of winning the rest of the games so you can get into the playoffs.

Okay, I followed your advice and purchased another player, a PF, (10409331), for 52K. Stats are:

Jump Shot: strong Jump Range: respectable
Outside Def.: atrocious Handling: awful
Driving: pitiful Passing: atrocious
Inside Shot: strong Inside Def.: prominent
Rebounding: proficient Shot Blocking: average
Stamina: mediocre Free Throw: awful

Experience: respectable

Think it was a good purchase? I'm gonna be running a RnG offense still, so the 8 JS and 7 JR should be helpful. Should I play him on defense as a C for my game against Kool Aiders to match up against his star C? Overall, I think now I'm in pretty good shape to go for a playoff spot now, and if I keep expanding my arena and adding more pieces, maybe younger ones once I get the money, I should be able to promote this season.

Personally, I think you spent to much time (and money) listening to everyone's advice, and you didn't give enough time to see how your team will perform to see if any of these additions were necessary.

The biggest problem you will face is the age of your players. Depending on the strength of your league, it could be possible to win a D.V league with your roster. However, your most important players are all over 33, which means they will get worse over time. So even if you win the championship this season, you will have to replace your winning pieces rather than adding strength to them once you get to D.IV.

My advice to you is to take some time to play the game. Learn what works for you and what doesn't. See how the different strategies make the players perform and how your team progresses, then make adjustments. Above all else, take what is here on the forums with a grain of salt. What works for one team may not work for you.

I think most, if not all, of these additions, were quite necessary. My league seems to be pretty active for a D5 league, so I think it was worth it for me to take on a higher payroll.

I know my players are old, but they should all be good throughout the season, and if I promote, my guards should be able to start for me in D4, and my PF could be a backup. Considering that I should be filling most of my seats throughout this season, I should make enough money to continue expanding my arena, bringing in even more money through the arena. Plus, once I promote to D4, I'll be getting an extra 200K. So, once I get to D4, there are pretty much two possible paths I can take. I can sell my old players, getting what I can for them, and just save up for a good draft pick, then relegate back to D5 with a lot of cash saved up that should be able to get me some nice, younger pieces for the future, and promote me back into D4 in a much better position. Or, I can continue to use my old players until their skills drop enough to make them unplayable. When that happens, I'll have made enough from staying competitive to pay for one or two young players with good skillsets. Not to mention the fact that I'll be training my C prospects for the next few seasons, and I'll probably sell one of them and pocket the extra money. Along the way, I'll be expanding my arena a lot to maximize my profits. So overall, I think getting a few veterans to promote out of D5 was the right choice, although maybe it would have been better to save up for a few younger guys.

While it's true that not every piece of advice given is suitable for every team, I think this guy is taking everything into careful consideration. Then there's the fact that multiple paths can lead to the same goal, so though pieces of advice may differ, they could all be helpful.

To ADB:
I think the PF will help your team, and though I believe you could have gotten a player like that for a lower price, it's not a bad purchase. These prices may seem much now but soon enough it's pocket change, and even if you can't sell them you won't have lost much money for the value they brought you. The extra wins you get with them are worth money too. I think you got a pretty good idea of the strategies of buzzerbeater, and now it's just getting experience and finetuning your ideas and skills.

Just some food for thought. I'll leave you to make up your own mind...

I know my players are old, but they should all be good throughout the season

There is no way to accurately predict the number of skill drops per season for players 33 and older, but you could be correct.

and if I promote, my guards should be able to start for me in D4

My true starting back court has a combined salary of $47,648. My first guard off the bench adds another $11K. You wouldn't be able to train to that level in 1 season, let alone the 4 seasons I've spent training them. With that said, I'm probably only the 6th best team in my league... if that high.

I should make enough money to continue expanding my arena, bringing in even more money through the arena.

I had almost 8K seats in my arena when I promoted, and that's not enough seats to maintain a quality D.IV roster.

and just save up for a good draft pick, then relegate back to D5 with a lot of cash saved up that should be able to get me some nice, younger pieces for the future

Choosing relegation should only be an option when you have hit a wall with your current team, forcing a rebuild. It should never be a part of your building plan, but for sake of discussion, let's break it down.

1. There's no guarantee you will get a good draft pick
2. Relegation has a severe impact on season ticket holders as well as general ticket sales
3. Lower ranked D.IV teams have a better opportunity to make more money than good D.V teams

When that happens, I'll have made enough from staying competitive to pay for one or two young players with good skillsets.

With only a surface glance at your team currently, you would probably be in a relegation position in either division of my league. With the skill drops you'll receive, your team will be in a worse position when/if you promote.

So overall, I think getting a few veterans to promote out of D5 was the right choice, although maybe it would have been better to save up for a few younger guys.

That's the point. You have all older guys with decent skills, then younger guys that can't compete at a D.IV level, but no one in between. Expanding your arena should be the priority right now, then being competitive. I did the same as you when I started. I got my team, then started buying players. The difference is the fact that in my 5th season, I still have 5 of the first 7 players I purchased, and 4 out of the 5 are big contributors still. The other 2 were sold at a nice profit overall. You won't have that option.

I would look towards getting a minimum of 7,500 seats in your arena before you promote. That way, you'll have a strong economy first to fund your plans. The teams that struggle in D.IV are the ones that can't afford to adjust to the competition.

Good luck to you, and I hope your plans succeed.

The guy just started playing, his team will evolve a lot before he promotes and when he promotes. I've been playing for 3 seasons and I promoted last year, and I don't have a single player I had in my first season. I constantly upgrade both my roster and my arena, and if you promote, you'll have more means to do so.

The guy just bought a couple of veterans to win games to generate income through ticket sales, and he also put quite some money in his arena. He's just starting and is still doing the right things. Now that he's settled with some core production to win games he can focus on his arena, which will be filled becasue of the wins.
