Comfortable 131-58 win (35791) over the Kazakhs.

Went with PTB and FCP to maximize point differential.

Game MVP: Curley shooting 11 for 12, 24 pts, 7 reb, 2 ast, 3 stl, 3 blk

Game LVP: nobody!

Next week we travel to Iran to kick off the 2016 sched.

Everyone have a fun and safe New Year's. Winter finally came today here with some fierce freezing rain.

Whew. Close one, as we withstood a late Iran rally and took a 82-77 win (35824) against a patient with SG at C.

I believe that will put us into the playoff bracket regardless of next week's result at home vs Indonesia. If so, we'll look to save enthusiasm. If not, then we won't!

Game MVP: Mughal - 15 pts (6/11, 1/2, 2/2), 26 reb - guarding their SG pretty well holding him to 16/38

Game LVP: Cockayne - 2 pts (1/8, 0/3, 0/0) - why he felt the need to jack up 3 3s in 14 min at PF is amusing

7 pops this week and -2 overall team GS, which is still pretty good at 8.23 avg

Indo has 2 wins by defaulting opponents but we will not underestimate them!

83-66 (35867) home win over Indonesia to finish the round unbeaten. 6-2 with the 2 losses from second chance carrying over (still a really dumb part of BB). A sweltering 56-32 first half score meant coasting to the finish in this one.

Game MVP: Curley - 17 pts (8/12 0/0 1/2), 16 reb, 3ast, 1stl
Game LVP: Pavliuk - 2 pts (1/10 0/2 0/0), but 7ast and 2stl

We open the elimination round as #19 against the vs #14 Czech Republic.

10+ with in 6 guard skills is nice with an emphasis on JS JR OD, but lately it's just picking the best few that are close to being trained correctly.

The last guide has JS14,OD13,60+ in the 6 guard skills. The last 2 seasons we have have had 0 players at that at the start of the season and 2 meeting those numbers during the season.

This game, a 87-78 loss to the Czech Republic (36077) is a beautiful example of what thoughts I go through when planning for a game. The only thing I will not do is post full player's skills in respect to privacy of their club teams' managers.

I do this to open a conversation about game planning, what do other managers do differently, etc.

Also I intend to run again to manage Canada U21 for the next 2 seasons.

Ceská Rep. 20 22 20 25 87

1. Updating excel spreadsheet with our U21 team's GS, DMI, pops

(Jan 15, Canada U21 GS, DMI, thoughts)

Izyaslav Pavliuk 8 233 --> our starting PG unless poor GS
Alban Strachan 8 215 --> 2nd best PG, 3rd best SG, so his minutes and positions vary game by game
Kevin Kühlein 7 99 --> top JR on the team but rarely plays correct minutes, so many weeks 7 or less GS
Ursus Teschow 7 114 --> top JS on the team, but below avg OD and poor secondaries, used in outside O games
Darren Westbury 9 220 --> tied for top OD on the team, but 3rd best PG taking into account 6 guard skills
Yuliy Koszakov 8 332 --> high JS, OD, OK secondaries, tied for most pops this year
Bernard Auger 9 191 --> added just for this game for a reserve spot
Derek Busch 9 220 --> 20 year old with high enough TSP to pass other 21 year olds for a spot on the team
Colin Grimes 9 145 --> same club team as Ávila, slightly less TSP
Benito Martín Ávila 8 139 --> our top TSP SF with no major drawbacks other than JR
Josh Curley 8 342 --> just a beast of a PF, around 8.2 or 8.3 GS this week unfortunately
Tim Mughal 9 540 --> starting C most games, great TSP with only 2 stats under 7
Alec Cockayne 8 254 --> 20 year old with high enough TSP to pass other 21 year olds for a spot on the team
Patrick Ringenier 9 370 --> backup PF/C, more of a PF with very high secondaries, lower primaries, highest TSP10 on team

questions asked:
a) who is excluded? Kuhlein and Teschow (GS 7) - at this point in the season 100% cannot play
b) do we then need a callup? earlier in the season, no, to preserve roster spots, as this possibly the last game, 100% yes
c) who can start? Westbury GS9 over Pavliuk at PG? maybe, will depend on other team and both teams tactics, Grimes over Avila possible, Curley and Mughal are good to go, SG is the big question with neither Teschow nor Koszakov in GS9

2. Updating excel spreadsheet with our opponent's U21 team's GS, DMI, as well as team tactics and player performance in U21 and club team games

(Jan 15, Czech U21 GS, DMI, notes)

kroutil 8 181 --> 5 starts @ PG, 1 start @ SG, leading scorer 2 times
benisek 8 156 -->
svitavsky 8 138 --> 1 start @ PG
drobil 8 152 --> 2 starts @ SG
kominek 9 138 -->
panek 8 127 --> 5 starts @ SG, 2 starts @ PG
adamec 8 246 --> 2 starts @ SF
lapka 8 203 --> 6 starts @ SF, leading scorer 1 time
jaros 8 325 --> 2 starts @ PF, 2 starts @ C
veleta 9 433 --> 2 starts @ PF, leading scorer 1 time
prokupek 8 444 --> 3 starts @ C, 3 starts @ PF, leading scorer 1 time
matousek 9 309 -->
vesely 9 918 --> 3 starts @ C, 1 start @ PF, leading scorer 1 time
krejci 9 507-->
endrle 8 296 -->
vachek 9 477 -->

questions asked:
a) who has the GS and DMI advantage? they do, 8.38 to 8.23 and 306 to 248
b) home team advantage? them

(previous Czech U21 games and tactics)

js is od id rb pa tot	eff	tactic	result
5 10 7 8 7 5 42 tie li/man W 99-97
7 6 7 8 6 6 40 ? rng/man W 100-91
6 7 9 9 7 6 44 tie ptb/man W 122-82
7 7 8 9 7 6 44 ? mot/man L 66-80
5 11 8 9 8 6 47 tie li/man W 91-70
7 7 9 10 7 6 46 nor rng/man W 105-70
6 9 8 9 6 6 44 ? ptb/fcp W 136-76
6 9 8 9 7 6 45 tie pat/man W 109-74

questions asked:
a) tactical pattern? no
b) their probable tactic for this game- li/man
c) effort advantage? even or either team could be slight favorite (us- 5 tie, 3 nor, them- 4 tie, 1 nor, 3 ?)
d) knowing all this, who are their probable starters? (thoughts)
PG kroutil -- does not excel in LI, no gaudy assist games = high OD for that salary
SG drobil -- not huge scoring from outside = again high OD, not a huge JS/JR risk
SF lapka -- labelled a PF who plays at SF = possible mismatch for us, *high foul rate*
PF prokupek -- DMI advantage against Curley, even GS, so he must be pretty good
C vesely -- almost a million DMI, scores a lot more than prokupek
