Pilipinas escapes Scotland with the win, 93-80

Both teams started out slow and struggled to shoot the ball in the 1st quarter. The 2nd quarter proved the same with us scoring a bit more. Scotland managed to have 8 blks in the 1st half at nakatulong yun sa struggle natin. On the flip side, may 3 fouls each ang tatlong bigs nila (Lennie, Skene & MacPhee) at the half pero hindi natin nagawang ma-foul out sila bago matapos ang laro. The 2nd half was the same back and forth at nahirapan tayong kumalag mula sa kanila, we managed to gradually pull away with less than 5 minutes to go plus nag-intentional foul na sila with a minute left.

The starters were led by Benson Villarivera (24pts, 8rebs) and Jiffrey Sumalapao (23pts, 2rebs, 6asts) with Delfin Orais pitching in 14pts & 5rebs. Melecio Sidad struggled again off the bench with the same 1-8 shooting as last game against South Africa. The bench was lifted by Augustus Moleno with 10pts, 6rebs & 2asts.

Sa susunod na linggo, uwi naman tayo to host Thailand. Hopefully maganda ang GS natin considering all star week this week at dalawang game lang ang karamihan sa atin.

Pilipinas beats Thailand at home, 137-74

A hot shooting first half lifted the team into a 34-pt lead at the break. Jiffrey Sumalapao led the team with a blistering 29pts on 8 of 11 shooting and 9-9 from the line. He finished the game with 32pts (5 of 7 threes), 5rebs & 4asts. Benson Villarivera (17pts, 5rebs & 2asts) and Sixto Nical (14pts & 2rebs) also contributed as starters with our two bigmen, Alan Adrian Marquese (8pts, 7rebs & 2stls) and Fortunato Arcega (2pts, 6rebs, 6asts & 3blks) also chipping in on their own.

Off the bench, the team was led by Bill Leon del Prado with 29pts on 11 of 14 shooting (4-5 from threes) in just 20 minutes of play.

Next week, last game na ng group phase at yun ay away against Peru. Tatlong puntos lang ang pagkatalo nila against Singapore kaya naman maghahanap yan sila ng panalo sa susunod na linggo. Sana ay mas maganda na ang condition ng ating mga manlalaro sa susunod na linggo to close and finish the group phase in a winning note.

Pilipinas dominated Peru on the road, 94-76

We were able to do it on the road in our last game of the group stage. Bumagsak pa rin tayo sa 11th place from 8th last week dahil sa mas malaking point differential na nakuha ng Greece, Slovenia at Hungary sa kani-kanilang panalo. Gayunpaman, may home court pa rin tayo sa unang round ng knockouts next week at ang ating kalaban ay Romania. Sila yung nagpauwi sa ating sa consolation tournament noong season 60 sa home court nila. We're hoping we can return the favor this time around.

Peru managed to improve their defense throughout the game as they kept decreasing our scoring output after putting up 30pts in the 1st quarter. Pilipinas was led by Jiffrey Sumalapao and Benson Villarivera with 16pts and 15pts each. The rest of the starters also helped out on their own way with Melecio Sidad leading the bench with 14pts & 4rebs. This is after his struggles against South Africa and Scotland a couple of weeks ago. Bounce back game niya ito after moving from Hong Kong to Estonia 10 days ago.

Looking forward to better game shape next week as we head to the round of 32 against Romania. Maraming salamat sa lahat nang patuloy na sumusuporta sa ating National Team.

Natapos pala natin ang group phase nang may 7-1 record, the best finish natin sa consolation tournament sa tenure ko. Ang tanging talo lang natin ay laban sa Mexico sa home court nila. We're in a 4 game winning streak at susubukan nating ipagpatuloy yan sa abot ng ating makakaya.

Looking forward to better game shape next week as we head to the round of 32 against Romania. May 15 players tayo sa ngayon sa National Team at may 3 spots pang bakante. Before our game against Peru, we called up Daryl Sierra for his first stint sa National Team ngunit hindi pa siya nag-debut. Titingnan pa natin kung kailan yan magiging posible.

Pilipinas bows to Romania at home, 109-102, out of the Consolation Tournament

Pinauwi na naman tayo ng Romania, this time sa homecourt naman natin. We played with more effort pero mukhang kulang ang homecourt advantage at enthusiasm natin para manaig laban sa Romania. We did our best and put out our best available team. We went out firing sa 1st quarter pero ganun din sila. Hindi natin na-maintain kaya nag-trail tayo ng dalawang puntos sa halftime. Naging anim naman after the third. Nakadikit tayo nang hanggang tatlong puntos sa huling minuto ng laro bago sila nakaalagwa palayo.

The team was led by Sixto Nical with a sizzling hot 17pt 1st quarter but he ended the game with only 10 more pts (27pts, 3stls at 2asts). Benson Villarivera also contributed with 21pts, 5rebs at 2asts while Jiffrey Sumalapao helped out with 19pts & 4asts.

At dahil wala na tayo sa consolation tournament, mag-arrange tayo ng mga scrimmage games para sa mga batang miyembro ng National Team to help them gain experience. Gagawin natin yan until the end of the season.

Ang competition na lang natin para sa hosting ng Asia Championship next season ay Japan. Ang Australia ay naka-bronze noong season 63 kaya hindi sila qualified sa ngayon. With Japan losing to Serbia today, sigurado na ang hosting natin next season. Ang huling beses na nag-host ay noong season 53 kung saan nakasungkit tayo ng bronze.

At 35 years old age, si Bill Leon del Prado ang pinakamatanda nating player sa National Team at huling season niya na ito. Maraming salamat sa iyong serbisyo.

Season's end

With our season coming to a close, after 4 scrimmage games in the last month, I would like to take this opportunity para magpasalamat sa lahat ng owners ng ating mga NT players during this season. Taos-pusong pasasalamat din sa mga patuloy na nagsasanay para sa susunod nating henerasyon ng mga manlalaro.

Achievements this season, congratulate natin si Jiffrey Sumalapao and Manila Bombers (boss Greedy) as he moved up to 5th all-time sa scoring ladder ng Pilipinas with 1,566. He was also able to score the 6th most points in a season with 276. Umakyat din siya to 4th all-time sa assist ladder naman with 428. Nakamit niya rin ang 8th most assist in a season with 77. 2 seasons ago, he secured the no.1 all-time assist in a season with 85. Also, in the last game of the season, albeit a scrimmage, he managed to dish out 15 assists, the 2nd most in a single game.

Good news for season 67, we will be hosting the Asia Championship kaya naman mas mataas yung expectations natin for the upcoming season. I believe our team is good enough to finish with a medal as we are always trying to get one. The last time we won a medal (bronze) was season 57 pa kaya it will end a 4-cycle drought. We still have a scrimmage game against Sverige before the season officially starts.

Looking forward to leading the team to a podium finish kung papalaring muli na mamuno sa ating koponan.
