Update: BMG's PF is 2 blocks away from tying the NBBA record for blocked shots. He's at 7 right now. He's blocking dunks, jumpers, everything. Please stay at 7.

Edit: He just blocked another jump-shot. 8.

Side note: Ive now had 3 times in the game I've "went up for a dunk in a crowd", missed the shot, had no foul called or blocked shot credited...is that weird? Or are my players just that bad at dunking?

Yeah i was kidding, but I agree with your basic point: these days the game is to fit the best possible combo of players in whatever weekly budget you have. Transfer prices are ridiculously low.

Yes....I kind of miss the days of build a team over time. I don't know...maybe that's still true in the lower levels.

i've said it a bunch of times in the past, but it's hilarious how many non-blocked, wide open dunks/layups are missed. I mean it would be one thing if that only applied lucky-fan types. But when even supposed elite inside scorers miss close to half their open layups/dunks some games....

though with "dunk in a crowd" there's a bunch of people around at least. (not wide open, so a little more plausible).

Which is quite the shame. Given that is what people are doing, AKA carrying salary at their salary 'cap,' it really sucks to have one of the smaller arenas. Since I cant spend as much money as others, it is harder for me to stay competitive, thus have to max out my own salary cap, which again, is lower than others. That leaves literally no money to upgrade my arena such that I can then expand my salary, and have a more competitive roster.

Feel like I'll be stuck in this cycle until I inevitably demote, as there is no real way out of it without a lot of breaks. I'll kill myself and my funds each season to stay here, and just have to repeat the process year after year until I truly do have no money.

I'm not a fan of that either. But you can still be competitive without resorting to it. My top 8 make only $652k... (for reference, there's a team at $869k!). King Drive is there with me in that lower tier of spending too & doing just fine. Even before your last pickup, you had enough salary to be competitive IMO. ($35k or so more than me IIRC?)

However if you truly feel that things really are that dire for your team... wouldn't the smart thing to do be completely tanking next season? Not that I think you should. Just the way you paint your future, you pretty much say you're intent on bankrupting your team for nothing basically. *And* in doing so are severely hampering any chance of quickly promoting back up... (Not sure why you'd rather kill yourself & your funds vs. re-promoting free from your cycle.)

I'm actually at 896k, not 869.

Was just talking about the top 8 players. Would have used top 10, but some teams don't go that deep in league games. [Can't believe I still have my entire D2 team completely in tact(!) with Alas tacked on...]

Only meant that a team can be at a huge spending disadvantage & still compete. Speaking of winning on the cheap, look at what USA Elite (23172) has been doing for a while in D2. Pretty impressive. Reminds me of when I arbitrarily tried to win D3 with a sub $100k payroll. Even made back to back finals with none of my players making over $10k. So counting that as a success, even if I didn't quite finish it off.

in this case I am not a very good contrast

Yeah, I just used the highest #. But the next highest team is still up there. Almost $830k for their top 8. & 7 teams are currently over the $750k mark. So a sizable gap vs. half the league. ($100-$180k disadvantage)

it'd be even nicer if your big man beast was an american

Well get me an American as good as him for the same price! Despite my using Alas out of position most of the time... Ranks #1 in Rating (USA) / #53 in Rating (World).
