You have the "Show the player bid confirmation popup? " option in preferences for that.
People withdrawing bids would cause a mess

Yeah, I get your point, but just imagine someone not bidding because of your last bid, for example.
Or talking about players, just think that the seller sees the bid and put this money to buy another player. Or someone you have overbidded wasting his money in another similar player and when you withdraw your bid he is bidding for two instead of one...
It's very complicated to make this work fine.
