It's better to have a well balanced team imo. You can certainly win with a few stars, but your team is less reliable. If one of the key players is fouled out or got a injury, your team takes a big hit, since there are no backups.
Another thing is that the salary costs are normally lower when you've got a balanced team. I'd rather have 2 centers of 20k salary than one of 50k.
