in any case dont forget to send a complete depth chart (meaning: repeat the names of the players as their own backups and reserves)

I have done that.

But I still haven't gotten an answer to my question. Can I set a team with only 5 starters (naming them as their own backups/reserves)?

Or is the answer that I need at least 9 players?

You can do 5 but you will most likely get random people from the stands "lucky fans" to play if they get into foul trouble or need to rest. It is not a big deal though...you may lose by a lot but training will be fine.

Cool, thanks.

I thought the bit about fans coming in was a joke. Now I'm intrigued! I think I'll go with 7 in the lineup tonight.

Update:

I went with 7, and we won (a meaningless scrimmage)! Also, we finished the game with 5 players, as two fouled out (or were injured). Neat. :)
