The Coolcats point guard rewarded his coach's faith and increased playing time with a career season, hustling for an impressive 4.8 rebounds at the point guard spot and finishing 2nd in the league with 2.0 steals per game.

So who actually 'picked' these awards? it seems like players from teams that aren't as active on the forum had some very competitive players that failed to crack a mention.

C-Cat, mllama and myself collaborated on each award, went through stats, had discussions etc

None of it was based on forum activity though. If any of the awards were based on their managers, none of the Coolcats players would get a mention for example because Shoei has been the most inactive manager in the league.

Why, who do you think should have been in there somewhere?

Perhaps the connection is between the active users being more successful? Winning teams are more likely to have players represented in most awards then losing teams who's players cant be that really be that impressive if there constantly losing now can they?

Anyway I assume your referring to dire and llama's players? wouldn't happen to have anything to do with them being 2 of the best teams in the country though? I only have 1 player represented so cant be talking about my players and we are the 3 most active. Coachnoodles is also one of the most active ones with just 1 player also...

I think Coolcats is the the most represented and he's basically a bot :s

Thanks for your reply dire. It's nice to know that some sort of science went into it.

One thing I noticed straight out was that Revasio (Meateors) missed out on any selection to every team. The guy led the league in rebounding and in my opinion should have been given some further consideration. but for the purpose of this, lets just compare him to dos Santos (BHB), the C in the third team.

C: Altair dos Santos (Billy Hoyles Boys)
11.3ppg, 15.3rpg, 2.6blk, 48% FG, 15.5 Rating (plus 0.3spg, 2.2 fpg)

C: Eusebio Ravasio (Meateors)
11.9ppg, 18.4rpg, 1.2blk, 34% FG, 12.0 Rating (plus 1.2spg, 1.9fpg)

I understand that Ravasio's points aren't at a good clip but I personally would have placed him in the third team.

Two other high scoring guards were omitted. I for one am not saying they should be included (as one happens to be my player). Those players are Nemkovich (Meateors) and Cima (Haggards).

Were the weekly 'awards' taken into account? if so, lets be reminded that the first 2 weeks there were no writeups and on some weeks there were 2 runner up awards given per conference and other weeks just the one.

Cima, 2 weekly mvps, 1 runner up (unlucky to miss out on some)
Nemkovich, 1 weekly mvp, 1 runner up.

when compared to

Couta, 1 win, 1 r/u
Gaetano, 1 win, 0 r/u

G: Anthony Cima (Haggards)
23.9ppg, 3.4apg, 4.6rpg, 1.5spg, 44% FG, 28% 3pt, 12.6 Rating

G: Nikita Nemkovich (Meateors)
25.1ppg, 2.4apg, 3.5rpg, 2.0spg, 40% FG, 38% 3pt, 12.0 Rating

when compared to other 'all ABBL # team' guards.

G: Matías Gaetano (CoolCats)
20.2ppg, 4.8rpg, 4.8apg, 2.0spg, 44% FG, 38% 3pt, 14.0 Rating

G: Sui Haili (CoolCats)
23.4ppg, 3.6apg, 2.2rpg, 1.4spg, 48% FG, 41% 3pt, 14.0 Rating

G: Flaviu Dobrin (Phoenix 5)
19.4ppg, 8.8apg, 3.0rpg, 1.0spg, 45%FG, 34% 3pt, 12.0 Rating

I would have placed Nemkovich and Cima on par, if not ahead statistically with these three. Granted the Haggards and the Meateors were schooled by better oppostion but if you guys wanted to count how successful their team is on the court then I can't really argue with that.

After reading what I have written I apologise if this comes out rather strong as I am by no means trying to insult or discredit your opinions. I am just adding my opinion. dire, I thank you for taking the time to ask me what I thought.

That is a verty simplistic way to look at it. That statement also implies that a "losing" team cannot have "impressive" players which even you should know is not true.

Hey I only have 2 mentions so far

BLS and Coolcats probably have the most mentions, but that's fair enough, they are the two teams with the best record.

I think we tried to take everything into account in these awards - including points, FG%, defense, rebounds, assists.... where two players were close, team success played a big part to. I think they are a fair representation of the division this season, for the most part we reached a consensus on the decisions.

Like any awards, there are unlucky players, but we can't fit em all in!

Anyway, the MVP will be up shortly (oh the suspense)

Here we go, with the most anticipated award...

MVP

3rd - (tie) Kristian Maisach (Doncaster)

The German had a stellar season running the point for the successful Doncaster Flames this season. His scoring was as steady as it goes - only dipping below 16 points in a game once for the season - and he occasionally lit it up with several 30 point games. Maisach also proved himself a good distributer, and his rebounding from the PG position was top notch.

Season stats: 23 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 48% FG, 1.5 steals

3rd (tie) - Rony Borell

The big Frenchman continues to deliver stellar performances in the ABBL, anchoring the offense and defense of the dominant Black Label Society team. The big man is efficient on offense, with a 52% FG%, and can generally be relied upon for 15-20 points a night. Borell was dominant on the glass this season, leading the league in rebounds per 48 mins, and he is a big reason why the Society have the league's best defense.

Season stats: 14.9 points, 16.7 rebounds, 52% FG, 1.9 blocks.

2nd - Leslie Gafa (Wombats)

After a sluggish start to the season, including a brief layoff with injury, Gafa quickly showed why he is one of the league's most feared scorers. Gafa led the league in points per 48 minutes, with the season highlight his 48 points against the Pancakes. With 11 games above 20 points, and 7 above 30, Gafa rarely had on off night, and won a league leading 4 MVP of the round awards. Gafa is showing no signs of slowing down, and promises to be among the league leaders in scorer for a couple of seasons yet.

Season stats: 25.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 48% FG.

1st - Plinio Couto Costa (Pancakes)

A couple of weeks ago, it would have taken a brave man to predict Couto Costa as the league MVP. Couto's shot was off and he missed the allstar game as a result. However, the all star snub spurred Couto into action, with the second half of the season littered with efficient scoring performances, such as his 42 points (50% FG) against the Wombats, and his 37 points (15-26) against the Giants. Couto managed to take out the scoring title in a close contest. In addition to his scoring prowess, Couto is an able passer, cracking double digit assists twice, and his defense is among the league's best. All this makes Couto Costa a worth winner of the MVP award, congrats!

Season stats: 25.9 points, 4.8 assists, 3.3 rebounds, 1.5 steals, 44% FG.

Nemkovics FG% probably counted against him. Cima was stiff no doubt, and probably would have been the next picked.

As far as Ravasio goes, I think he played much of the season at PF, so Doyle is the relevant consideration there. I felt Doyle had the better season (but of course, you are welcome to disagree)
