Motion is supposed to get you better % shots at the risk of more turnovers so you need good passing and handling on most of your players. Sometimes you don't see more assists because the teams using motion have the wrong skill set to use it. Run and gun is good if you have guys with great shooting and less great passing and handling,

In addition to what others have said, I also believe that using RnG will reduce the chance of gaining offensive rebound, as the guards take shots soon after they gain their possession, whereas using motion will give you more chance of gaining offensive rebound, since the big-men have time to settle down when they gain the possession.
