It seems your mobile provider is encoding the message as a picture. Maybe you could ask them? The confirmation code works ok for me.

But it should send as just a text message right? It's not supposed to send as a picture? It's weird because I can usually see pictures when people send them to me too, so I don't get why I can't open it.

If the message is only marked or "tagged" as a picture message, without the corresponding picture data, you will not be able to open it. That is what I believe is happening.
