You took it easy on the road and put similar match ratings. To win on the road on TIE then you have to have superior match ratings.
The above poster is also correct, 3pt shooting made a huge difference in the margin.

Check the Suggestions they are important

Hello, today I lost to a team that had about the same stats (36261709). Granted I took it easy in this game, but despite of that, the zone ratings were similar but I lost with a large margin. Can anyone please help me analyze what went wrong?

Is it rebounds? Is it that my opponent had more free throw opportunities? Is it because my opponent had better blocking? Thanks!

first of all you play away and with less effort, this make a big difference. Secondly inside Ratings are much easier to raise, which looks better on the rating but normally you need higher dominance there then with outside rating compared to their defence.

But overall i don't like the normal rating that much, i am more a fan of the match up ratings, and when you look at them and the shooting contribution, i agree with you that you should have at least a shot at winning.

Thanks... Apparently, I am wrong to think that offensive rating (inside and out) can be countered with the same level of corresponding defensive rating. Which makes me question the following: By what factor does inside defense ratings have to be than my opponent's offensive ratings to be effective? The same question for the perimeter defense vs. outside scoring ratings.

Also, is there an element of randomness applied to a few matches yielding surprise outcomes?

Thanks.

it is hard to tell, team rating have several glitches like that a single missmatch at a position can screw a defense and it is hard to compensate this in other position like the ratings will do, that rotation and the ratings on court change etc.

Thats why i prefer the match up rating, who predict the average outcome of a shot, in combination which who take the shot. if you had a center who scores 130Pts each 100 shot and he just taked 5 shots, the missmatch haven't value since the Center was:

A: Defended well, and taked just the very easy shots which results in a good matchup rating even when it wasn't a good matchup-

B: Your team didn't understand to bring him into the game, and need to work on your flow.

The biggest reason for you losing that I could think of is that your team made 0 3pointers while your opponents team made 6. That's 18 point difference already.

His team also had twice your free throws , and made twice as much free throws compared to you.

It's just a single game, hard to tell what really went wrong, but I guess your take it easy played a big role.

I thought I had effectively countered the princeton tactics with 1-3-1 formation but obviously it wasn't the case. So the question is: are the 3-pointers considered in the outside scoring ratings or is it a function of the tactics chosen and the player's jump shot skill levels? Are 3-pointers countered with better perimeter defense or shot blocking?

I have also noticed that my opponent benefited with a higher number free throws. Is there a way to reduce that?

Thanks.

Thanks... one last question... with "match up ratings" you refer to outside scoring vs. perimeter defense, etc.?

In the meantime, I will have to re-read the game engine one more time.

below the team ratings are 5 bars for every team, which show the point which the player would make with an average shot(or average 100 shots). Mostly that is a value betwen 80 and 120 points.

I like those stat much more to analyse a game afterwards, even when the team ratings are better to get a rough feeling where the strength and weaknesses are of the opponent.

I was just going to write to you to ignore my previous post as the answer is in the last paragraph in the game engine section of the game manual.

I do appreciate your answers. Have a good day!
