OK, I stand corrected. I had just read it somewhere and assumed it to be true.

"The primary purpose of a scrimmage is to give your team an extra day of training and experience", you're right ;)

Ok, that makes more sense as my trainee's competition was almost entirely against extremely inactive D. V teams.

But has anybody done any research on about how many minutes average it takes for a player to pop? If not I'll go through some of my older players that have been drafted, but a lot of stuff to sort through if somebody's already done it haha

don't count minutes... count games played instead...

for a rookie to play regular starter play on league and cup games, it takes a season tp have a pop at experience.

for a rookie to play as starter in leagues and cup, and to play in a U21/NT... I think it takes 1 and a half season to have 2 pops in experience. (based on experience on one player)

Don't take my word for it, however. It's better to experience it yourself firsthand... and I'm not really sure if potential has a factor in it either.

Hi Katchafire, just a couple of questions:

1) Would age be a factor as well?

2) When you say "for a rookie to play regular starter play on league and cup games, it takes a season tp have a pop at experience" does it mean he has to play all 22 regular season games as well as all the cup and scrimmages?

Am curious as to the rate as well as my 23 year old just popped in XP - to pitiful. He's been playing in at least half of the total games played (regular season plus cup plus scrimmages) these past 4-5 seasons (up to S16).

By inference based on that player it would take at least 2-3 seasons for a pop in XP.

in my experience, yeah. each game counts for something, experience-wise

in his first three years, did he play more on league games or just scrimmages?

and again, i dunno also if potential plays a factor in the experience pop.

hmmm first 2 seasons mostly cup and scrimmage at 1 or 2 games a week with a minimum of 48 minutes played a week.

I didnt move him into the regular rotation until his 3rd season.

So for an XP pop based on my 1 player its its 1-2 full Seasons (?)

Ok, So I took the time to calculate the number of minutes 2 of my players had (in their careers so far) when they popped to Awful in Experince.
Have in mind that an exact number is impossible, since different type of games give you different amount of experience. Without knowing the formula, it is impossible to know when a player will pop. However, these are my findings:

Player 1
League games = 2266 minutes
Cup games = 434 minutes
Scrimmages = 3070 minutes

Player 2
League games = 1959 minutes
Cup games = 650 minutes
Scrimmages = 1636 minutes

Obviously Player 1 has a lot mor scrimmmage minutes, but... you can notice that the sum of minutes played in league and cup games is almost the same, 2700 and 2709... So my guess is that the minutes required to pop from Atrocious to Awful in experience are close to this number. Could it be that scrimmages contribute very very little to overall experience?

A third player I studied, popped from Atrocious to Pitiful in experience with only 480 minutes of cup games and 340 minutes of league games (+750 minutes scrimmages), but he could have been higher in sublevels, or perhaps cup games are much more important than we think...

This is a complicated equation with too many unknowns, but in my opinion, a player who features regularly in a club's games, should receive a pop in Experience in no more than 2 seasons..
