A timeout when the score is 4-4? I've never seen anything close to that, and as BB-Ryan wrote, he knows about this behaviour, and I hope they will fix it in the future.

It's not strange at all. Many coaches are maniacs about certain aspects of the game so for example they'll call a timeout if one guy plays man-to-man when they called for a zone, even on the first possession of the game...

this is absolutely true. maybe he had a change of heart. And there are a lot of coaches like this. Just like Phil was used to almost never call timeouts during opponent runs, and that was annoying to some, but with a lot of benefits to team chemistry

i see such thing more often, especially when the team makes big crap in the last possesion or maybe the last 2.

I have seen it not necessarily at 4-4 but within the first few minutes of a game for a variety of reasons.

* the team totally blows a play or runs the wrong play and the coach is mad and wants to yell at them.

* somehow the wrong team is on the floor and the coach wants to change it but also find out how.

* a player has a minor injury like a pull or strain or issue like a contact lens that needs fixing that can be easily resolved.

* an important player has blood and rather than them missing game time they call a timeout.

* there is some sort of uniform issue or wardrobe malfunction.

* a player has lost their cool and needs to be calmed before matters escalate.

* one player does something totally stupid or lazy and the coach wants to call them out right away.

Enough?
